Spotted H LTHOUGH it is not the custom to spot the Literary Editor, this year there has been no question but that such an honor should be accorded Gladys Engel, for her duties as editor form only a fraction of her school activities. Our Woots is in more, does more 'work, knows more people than most high school students. We give you here a most unusual girl, whose deep interest calls forth her energy for many worthwhile enterprises. And when our Gladys turns her E mind on a matter, it's bound to prosper. Practically, all E's! No, we can't see that such a record throughout has spoiled her. She's just naturally an E student, the kind that knows how to be without making the rest of us envious. Versatility characterizes this Vice-President of the Senior Class and Secretary of the Junior Class. She has been entrusted with meeting visitors to the school as a member of the Reception Committee. Athenaeum chose her as Vice-President, Math Club as a member, and the Orchestra as assistant-manager. She was Secretary of the Senior Current Events Club, and recognition has been hers in the Pen Woman's Contest. Upon occasion she acts in plays. We reiterate, Gladys is versatile. A list of activities never can give an idea of her enthusiasm and loyalty. The gift of true friendship is hers. For many of us a sight of her and a word from her have started our day with a promise of successful achievement. Best of all she knows where she wants to go. We believe she will get there. Spotted ERE is an enterprising young man who is known to everyone in our high school and particularly to the Seniors. With him action is eloquence -the kind of action which has meant something to him- self and,to his school. The advisors of the HERALD Staff are indeed proud to select Salvatore Gallo as the student to be spotted in this issue, which represents the culmination of the successes of the class over a four-year period. i Those who have worked under him in his capacity of Editor-In-Chief of the HERALD have been imbued with the same enthusiasm and energy that are Salvatore's characteristic. It is not surprising, therefore, that the HERALD won first place in the Columbia Scholastic Press Contest of 1936. Those with whom he has Worked in the clubs of which he has been an active member have been quick to recognize in him a competent leader. He has displayed remarkable executive ability in this phase of his actlvi- ties, by serving as President of the Cartoon Club and Italian Club and Vice-President of the Science Club. I H H Those who have had Salvatore in class have had to deliberate only why his rare G was not an HE . For his outstanding work in Italian, merely one subject, he has earned two gold medals granted by the Order Sons of Italy. . Those who are his fellow students find in Gallo a friend who gives importance to their trifles, a friend whose sincerity they respect and whose ability they admire. Because of his many line traits, which are essential in developing mind, body, fame, and fortune, we feel safe in predicting for Salvatore Gallo success in his future endeavors. PAGE SEVENTEEN
