She first entered Richmond Avenue School where she completed her grade work. Then, in due course of time, she was graduated from Junior High, and four years ago entered Senior High School where she has completed the Commercial Course with distinction. All who know Catharine-and a host of friends do-love and respect her for many fine qualities of heart, mind, and intellect. This young lady, who has so endeared herself to faculty and pupils alike, has held the high ambition to develop body, mind, and soul. And this worthy ambition has been carried by her to a high degree of accomplishment, in this crowning year of school achievement. During her high school course, she has been associated, either as official or member, with the Commercial Club, Dramatic Society, Cirls' Chorus Club, Glee Club, Senior Choir, THE HERALD, Senior Courtesy Committee, and Tri-Hi. She has also rendered valuable service in secretarial work to the Commercial and to the Physical Training Departments. She has won an enviable accumulation of School Service Poinst, and her class work has been all G and E grades. Indeed, Cassie, as we call her, brought much to the school-character, culture, ideals, liberal mind, and consequently, is taking with her a rich reward in school attain- ment. Truly, has she proved, that it is more blessed to give than to receive. This school is justly proud of Catharine Haldeman Guth, who has sought in education that which trains the citizen and informs the spirit in the heritage of our country.
LTHOUGH the editor of THE HERALD is never far from the Spotlight, the com- mencement issue places him directly in its bright circle. This is a just reward. He has done much to determine its policies, to set its tone, and to make it representative of the school as a whole. This year's editor, Nathan Kline, has aspired to write ever since he has been in high school. With steadfast perseverance, he has endeavored to avoid the trite and hack- neyed, and to discover the exact word or phrase for his expression. Besides his editorials and his work as assistant literary editor last year, he has received honors in the Pen- women's contests in both short story and poetry, and special mention in The Scholastic poetry contest. To ascertain the variety of his interests, one might well turn to the list of extra-curric- ular activities olifered by the school. Nathan has been a member of many teams, clubs, and committees: at various times he has been president of The Athenaeum, The Dra- matic Society, and The Forum. Participation in all these organizations has an intangi- ble valueea worth not recorded in teachers' grade books, but none the less real. Nathan is ever eager to embark upon new undertakings, he is candid and courteous to his teachers and his fellows, and generous in his judgment. We venture to predict that his enthusiasms,-especially in amateur dramatics and in journalism-his executive ability, and his hearty co-operation will lead to a distinc- tion and success of which his school will have cause to be proud.
