The Greek Sing, which started out as a simple talent show, has now become an annual tradition at ACC. When it began, sororities and fraternities competed as they do now but with an emphasis on individual's talent within the organization. This eventually phased out, and the competition of the entire group evolved. It was not an elaborate affair. No costumes or props were used. Then one year, Sigma Sigma Sigma began the dancing routine and costumes; it then became the way it was done. No longer is Greek Sing simple. Hours of debating and practicing themes and songs, along with sometimes complicated dancing and movement, go hand-in-hand with expensive costumes and fund-raising to aid in the financing. According to Sandra Horton, president of the Panhellenic Conference, not just the winners of Greek Sing will win the awards. The winners of the sororities will, of course, get a trophy. Then, the sorority with the highest grade point average of the sisters will get one and also the sorority whose pledges have the highest GPA. Of the fraternities, the winner will get one and the fraternity with the highest GPA will get one, she said. She also said the proceeds will go to the winning sorority and fraternity to be given to their philanthropy — the charitable organization they are supporting. Greek Sing 30
