Volunteer Freshmen perform their var- ious talents to the student body and faculty in Howard Chapel during early fall. Halloween Halloween turned out to be a very special event at AC this year. Besides having the usual booths where students get their food, there was also a costume contest. This was a first for the student body, and, as you can see, it was a huge success. 14 ' 16 Homecoming 1978 featuring “Bill Deal the Rondells” Homecoming Queen Miss Cindy Hill Escorted by Jones Fuquay 18 19 First Runner Up Miss Renee Jenkins 22 Second Runner Up Miss Donna Slaughter 23 Remaining Top Ten Right: Alison Jordan Lower Left: Cindy Winston Lower Right: Nancy Bridges Far Upper Left: Eleanor Harmon Far Upper Right: Gena Glass Far Lower Left: Donna Springs Far Upper Right: Debbie Koesy — Right: Malinda Eubanks Lower Left: Jo Carter Lower Right: Vickie Simmons Far Upper Left: Lorraine Cascioli Far Upper Right: Christie Wooten Far Lower Left: Shelie Holland Far Lower Right: Jeanie Boyd mn Right: Mary Ellen Beasley Lower Left: Debbie Warmack Lower Right: Irma Braswell Far Upper Left: Karen Thornton Far Upper Right: Sharon Schultz Far Lower Left: Marsha Andrews Far Lower Right: Connie Patterson • a r. + 9 ■ t'¥i Si Right: Doris Whichard Lower Left: Connie Lail Lower Right: Karen Edwards Far Lower Left: Debbie Wilder Far Lower Right: Shirley Spence PERIOD HOME VISITOR svV 5 'W-ht ■■■■ 32 A First . . . Credits: Color Pictures — Larry Sullivan Cover Design — Clark Winslow Class Pictures — Smith Studios, Raleigh, NC 221 DESIDERATA Go placidly amid the noise haste, remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly clearly and listen to others, even the dull ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection; neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all the sham and drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. MAX EHRMANN © 1927 by Max Ehrmann. 224
