EDUCATION AND PSYCHOLOGY Atlantic Christian College has con- tributed a high percentage of its gradu- ates to the teaching profession. While the high percentage of our students who enter the teaching field is comparable to that of a teacher’s college, our philoso- phy is that of a liberal arts college. We attempt to combine a broad cultural education with professional competence. The Department of Education and Psychology, within the context of a lib- eral arts program, offers a major in elementary education and a minor in psychology. In addition, it cooperates with the various academic departments in securing certification for their majors. DR. JOHN R. SCUDDER, JR. BUSINESS The Department of Business was or- ganized in response to a demand for courses designed to prepare students for business careers and for teaching busi- ness subjects in the secondary schools. The courses offered cover the general field of business and economics. The main objectives of the Business Department are to prepare students for accounting positions, secretarial service, banking, merchandising, and executive positions in the field of business and in- dustry, and to train teachers of business subjects. The student receives instruc- tion both in sound business principles and in the practical applications of these principles. The curricula include subjects which provide a liberal college education in addition to technical training. ENGLISH The Department of English is dedi- cated to the creativeness of students and to a study of the great literature of human history. The accomplishments of young poets, playwrights, and storytell- ers; the publication of the student maga- zine, The Little Review; the production of fine plays by Stage and Script—these are at the heart of the department’s work. The Department offers three types of major: the major taken by those who wish teacher certification; the major for those who do not plan to teach; and the major for those who wish a speech- drama slant. Approximately forty stu- dents are now working for distinction in English as majors. DR. MILDRED E. HARTSOCK A.B., A.M., Ph.D., University of Cincinnati DOROTHY EAGLES DORIS C.
