 years In order to get historical perspective we need not say in what order these generations came. Per- haps it is enough for us to be conscious that history plays no favorites. Just as not one in 1902 may have foreseen Harper Hall or Hardy Library, so may those first students have found little on which to base an opinion of the classes of ’53 and ’54. Have any moralists asked you, “Are you justify- ing the faith of your predecessors who struggled to get a broad education in a tiny college’’ Does this make you stop and moralize, “What faith ever en- tered my mind about the ACC students fifty years „ from now’ r5 Or is history going to be its own natural self— a steady record of our own studying in order to sur- vive and “may the best students win!’? i

Is it really history to say that Kinsey Seminary was built in 1898 . . . that it was taken over by the Disciples of Christ as Atlantic Christian College in 1902 . . . that nine years later Caldwell Hall was built as a dormitory for men . . . that during the five years from 1934 to 1939 the gymnasium, dining hall, heating plant, and chapel were completed . . . that a $400,000 women’s dormitory and a $200,000 li- brary were completed in time for the beginning of the fiftieth term of classes in September 1951? Or does history rightly trace changes in the personality of students and teachers—the sober, studious generation; the war-conscious generation; the generation of the Jazz Age; the hard-working, almost starving generation?
