cAtlan tic Christian Colleae HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN LEADING UP TO Our college needs certain new buildings. The enrollment this year is the largest in the history of the college—523 students. To house these and to train them properly, they should have the advantages afforded by more modern laboratory equipment and facilities, by comfortable living quarters with room to move around in. The trustees have acted to begin building as soon as finished plans are avail- able. The new buildings will be a Girls Dormitory, Library, Administration Building (Reconditioned Kinsey Hall), Science Hall, and a Student Union Building which will add new beauty to the institution. This dream has been inspired by the minds and souls of the Christian men and women who formed the real cornerstone. Mere dreams are materializing every day in the thousands of dollars pouring into our improvement fund. The concrete evidence will he in the new buildings, classrooms, and the other necessary alterations to come. We believe that life at A.C. is unique and worthwhile not only as prep- aration for life, but as “a way of life” itself. This is what we have sought to present in the 1948 Pine Knot. Frankly we hardly know what to say. For the past months the staff has worked and played and found time to stick together the thousand odds and ends which go to make up an annual. It s been funny at times—and at times rather exasperating. Pictures didn’t turn out and ideas wouldn’t click. We hope that you can look hack over the annual and recall a year which has affected all of us. and that the faces and places you see, and the pictures of the things you did, won’t he forgotten. First of all, we’d like to pay tribute to the ones who helped to make this book pos- sible. To Raines Cox for their fine pho- tography and advice, we give our thanks. Reagan and Jane Wyman of Hollywood, California, go our sincere thanks for their gracious cooperation in selecting the queen of our yearbook. For all the others who helped us in one way or another, and to the teachers that overlooked our cuts from class, we say, “Thank you very much.” To the members of the staff—Irene, Gladys, Edna, Eckv, Mona, Flo, Jeanne, Alma, Rachel, Doris, Dot, and Charles—we say “Thanks a million.” Our sincere apprecia- tion to Mr. Stark for his help and guidance, and appreciation is due Mr. Win. Oliver Smith for his wise words of advice and kindness to us, and the cooperation of Miss W ard should not go unmentioned. To Ronald A word of praise should go to our adver- tisers, who year after year give us a mighty big boost. Please do us and yourselves a favor—read the ads. We hope vou enjoy the book. If you can thumb through the book ten years from now and still feel a pull at your heart, then our job has been complete. “God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December.” 113 Gene and Lee. What can you do to help solve the serious school-teacher shortage? YOU CAN DO THIS! First: Check up on educational conditions in your local schools. Second: Work with civic groups and school boards seeking to improve teachers’ working and living conditions. The joint effort of forward-looking citizens can and must save this situation—for the sake of our children and our country.
