Its membership is limited to students who are registered in the Commercial Department of the College. The purpose of the Club is twofold; first, business—to create and to stimulate an interest in the business trends of modern life; second, social. The members of the Club have visited many of the offices of the prominent business men of Wilson, and also the various industries and banks located here. Attendance at some Court proceeding is required of all. One of the “high-lights” of the social affairs of the Club was a picnic held at beautiful Silver Lake on the evening of May eighth. Club colors are Black and White; the motto is “Success Follows Effort.” OFFICERS President...........................................Miss Ocie Sharpe Batts Vice-President..................................Miss Edna Owens Secretary.........................Miss Spivey Roberson Treasurer.....................William Spillers MEMBERS Mrs. Jasmine Barnes Narron Spivey Roberson Irene Adams Retha Sawyer Mae Anderson Elaine Strickland Virginia Barnes Edna Thigpen Bettie Glen Barden Mary Vellines Ocie Sharpe Batts Alvareta Weaver Doris Brinson Helen Williams Christine Bryant G. BAND The Atlantic Christian College Band has just completed its first year’s work. It was organized in October, 1934, and has progressed into a musical organization worthy of praise. Not only has it been received with enthusiasm by the students and faculty of the college, but also by the audiences of Eastern North Carolina before which it has appeared in concerts. After having been organized less than a month, the band made its first pubTc appearance, which was on Homecoming day, November 3, 1934, and before a large number of Alumni and friends of the College. On December 17th and 18th the band gave two Christmas concerts in front of the court- house in Wilson, which included several Christmas melodies. The next concert was on January 5th, 1935, at the official dedication of the new gymnasium. During the next three months the band played several times for chapel and at many of the ball games. They attended the Eastern North Carolina Band and Orchestra Festival in Raleigh on April 14th, and were heard by an audi- ence of more than 4,000 people. The band presented its first radio program on April 17th, 1935, over station WEED in Rocky Mount. On May 4th, the Band gave a program before a large group of High School seniors at the Pleasant Union Christian Church in Sampson County. They participated in their first parade on May 10th in commemoration of Memorial Day. The final appearance of the year was a commencement program on May 27th. Y. M. C. A. OFFICERS President...................................................Hubert E. Rose Vice-President................................Robert Helsbeck Secretary-Treasurer............... Cleotha McLamb The Young Men’s Christian Association of Atlantic Christian College is an organization which has been organized for several years. It is one of the most uplifting organizations now existing on the campus, consisting of all young men who wish to join. The construction of the Y.M.C.A. is indicative of the goal for which it strives. It has for its purpose the betterment of all young men morally, mentally, physically and spiritually. It is the duty of the Y. M. C. A. to lead its members, and others, throughout the college into active work in the church. It seeks to influence them to devote themselves in united effort with all Christians in making the will of Christ effective in human society, and to extend the kingdom of God throughout the world. The definite aim of the organization is to promote the well being of all young men. Each member of the organization should be willing to make it a part of his personal program. The Y. M. C. A. endeavors to reach into the lives of young men, to find their problems, and to aid them in solving these problems. This organization meets once each week with a program consisting chiefly of music, devotional, business, and discussions of various problems of interest to the group. It is the duty of every member to take an active part in the programs, and to strive to make the organization a success. We, as members, and officers of this organization, are hoping, with the aid and cooperation of all other organizations, to make this year of 193 5-3 o one ofithe greatest in the history of the organization. • -.3 «MI Y.
