Q4ii4' UHONOWOOOWOO-C' HISTORY OF THE CLASS Ol: 1934 If one could turn back the hands of the clock and turn over the pages of history for the past four years, much concerning the Senior Class of 1934 might be revealed. On Monday, September 6, 1930, at the registrar's desk, there was enrolled a pitiful, pale-faced group of Freshmen who had come to Atlantic Christian College in its quest for knowledge. After being enrolled, some of the newness wore off, and we lost our fear of each other, and after due 'process of initiation administered at the hands of the Upper-Classmen, we began to feel as though we were really a part of the institu- tion. We met and duly elected our officers. Mr. Kermit Traylor, a ministerial stu- dent of Newell, Alabama, was chosen to lead our class through its Freshman year, which duty he ably and efficiently discharged. We fell to work with a will and we closed our Freshman year with a picnic at Silver Lake, and moving up day at a chapel Service when we were made Sophomores. On September 7, 1931, we came back for a hard year's work as Sophomores. Our number was not so large as it was during our Freshman year, for during the summer we lost several members who enrolled in other schools or stayed at home. This year we selected Miss Eva Mae Whitley, of Washington, N. C., as our president. Miss Whitley led our class ably and efficiently throughout the year until moving up day when we were heralded as Juniors. Gur year closed with another picnic at Silver Lake. On September 11, 1932, we came together again on the campus of Atlantic Christian College to begin our work as Juniors. For our president, we chose Miss Mabel Cherry of Rocky Mount. Miss Cherry led us very efficiently through these days oi' work, for we had plenty of work. As we look back over this year there are joys and sorrows in view. On January 10, 1933, the hand of death moved over our group and took one of our most versatile members in the person of Glennie Daniels, of Black Creek. This was a blow from which we have never quite recovered. But time healed the wound and we moved onward with our work. On April 19, 1933, we entertained the Seniors in the annual Junior-Senior Banquet at the Country Club. The year was closed by a party in the parlors by Mr. Grim, our sponsor, and moving up day when we were made Seniors. We Started off our Senior year in the fall of '33 with only fourteen of our original membership with us. Others united with us bringing our number to twenty-six. Erle Dail, of Grifton was chosen to guide us as president through our last year. This year, four of our class were stricken by the seeming epidemic of appendicitis and under- went operations at a local hospital. We worked hard, bringing our Senior year to a close with the annual banquet by the Juniors and a party at the home of Mrs. Jack Barnes in Lucama. Our four years at Atlantic Christian College have all too soon become history and as we leave these cherished scenes, we do so with a pang of regret, yet with a determination to take our places in life and make Atlantic Christian College, our Alma Mater, proud of us. After much discussion our society finally selected the debaters, who through their earnest and untiring efforts brought us our eighth conscutive victory over the He-sperians in the annual debate. To Hazel Windley and P. D. Grady, Jr., we sincerely express our love and appreciation. MAY DAY FESTllVAl. In an ancient day in England a tiny kingdom was celebrating the marriagei of its niw king. May had come with her gift of Spring, There were blue unclouded skys, the tender green of new leaves, birds all glad and full of song. The villagers were gathered on a wooded knoll near the palace. The prince had offered as a wedding 54 ft to his lovely bride, the privilege ol' ruling over his entire kingdom for one season of the year. To aid her in making the decision, the vilagers pictured the seasons before her in pageantry and dance. A holiday had been proclaimed. The villagers b3dc:ke.l themselves in garlands, set the chimes ringing, and presented Summer, with her flower r ng of adoring love, prancing Autumn with harvest fruits, Winter strong :1n:l pg-rsistcnt. Then came Spring fresh and sweet. As she appeared, the throng b rsi into happy song to welcome her. The maiden liked Spring best of all, The Spirit of Spring joyfully placed the crown of flowers on the maiden's head. The ladies and gentlemen of the court, filled with the spirit of the occasion. rose and danced the stately minuet. Then the joyo-us villagers danced around the May Pole in happy celebration until the golden sun sank behind the purple hills.
