1ll31lR1llIErllF 1151134131115 111521937 ' ' ' enior Glass gffistory 'THE CLARION CALL of Opportunity having sounded by way of announcement of the date on which the Atlanta Law School would begin its sessions in the Fall of 1934, there matriculated a group of individuals inherently bound together with some indefinable spirit that proved to be the common urge to study law. Nlany of us entered school with the purpose of becoming practicing attorneys, and others to study law as a step toward the realization of particular ambitions. 1Ve began with the cardinal principles in Elementary Law taught by Dean Douglas, and there learned about many customs among brother lawyers. Toward the end of our Freshman year we discussed a legal entityu with lVIr. Edgar Wat- kins, Jr., in the Partnership class. When we were Juniors Shorty,' Andrews in the Evidence class gave us many pointers on how to win verdicts. In our Senior year 1X'Ir. Sams taught us how to get into a court of Equity: and Nlr. VVynne told us in Constitutional Law that sometimes l'Might makes Right . VVe incorporated with llr. NIcClatchey, made our wills with lVIr. Shelor, and with hir. Hooper, Jr., looked for contingent remainders. Ours is a class of many first and last experiences in the life of the institution that has come to mean so much to us. 1Ve were the last class to begin the study of law in the old quarters of the school on Pryor Street, and the last class to witness the annual first night addresses by the faculty-a custom well known to Atlanta Law School students of other days. It was during our last year of study that the school was accepted for membership in the National Association of Law Schools. The number of class room hours had to be increased to conform to the requirements of the Association, which took away the Friday evening hour which previously had been devoted to the two literary societies. Another first experience, we dare say, was the unanimous election of officers for the last half of our senior year. VVe have sought to learn something of the theory and history of the law and have studied to become attorneys with practical rather than academic minds, with sound and ethical principles, and with a basic knowledge of the laws of Georgia. XVhether entering upon the law as a life work or having taken it only for its use in other fields of endeavor, each member of the Senior Class of 1937 will have a richer and more abundant life because of his understanding and appreciation of the lawg and because of our association together and with our able instructors, we will have become better lawyers, better citizens, better men and women. -ANNABELLE Cox, 1937. - L., . ------hr - , H YYVYYY Y
