The firsT was Lamar College aT ClarksTon, Georgia, open from 4942 To 4945. Josephus Hopwood, founder of Milligan College and Virginia ChrisTian College, served as presidenT of The college, which failed because of insufficienT financial supporT. The second aTTempT was SouTheasTern ChrisTian College aT Auburn, Georgia, open from 4945 To 4924. John H. Wood became presidenT of This insTiTuTion when Dr. Hopwood was unable To assume leadership. Fires ThaT desTroyed The dormiTories and The heavy press of financial problems made iT necessary To close This insiTuTion. The Third insTiTuTion was ATIanTa ChrisTian College, where Judge and Mrs. T. O. HaThcock became The key leaders. Judge HaThcock had been associaTed wiTh The earlier efforTs and had gained considerable experience in This area. DeTermined ThaT no more properTy shouIdAbe IosT because of financial problems, he approached This new venTure in a conservaTive manner. One frame building was erecTed on properTy owned by The HaThoooks and a small faculTy assembled. UnforTunaTely, The school was barely under way when The greaT depression hiT and iT was impossible To raise supporT for The school. In 4930 The college suspended operaTion. James C. Redmon acoepTed The posiTion of leadership and held The posT unTiI 4978. Paul K. Carrier assumed The posiTion in 4978. WhaT began as o sTudenTs in one small wooden sTruoTure has grown inTo over 200 sTudenTs housed in many handsome brick buildings.
