Believing that there was a need for a system of student gov- ernment 0n the campus of Atlanta Christian College. the trustees and president appointed representatives of the student body at the Close of the school year 1952-1951, to undertake the work of organiz- ing: such a student body government. A charter and constitution were drawn up and us of September 1. 1953, became effective un- der the presidency of Carlyle Cox. The purpose of student government at Atlanta Christian Col- lege is to help promote the Colleges efforts to develop adult Chris- tizm leadership by providingr experience and training: in the solving: of problems which engage the interest and challenge the needs of the school. The functions 0f the student government are such that through them it is possible for students by applying democratic means, to participate in maintaining: and improving: a campus life in which the freedom 01 each is tempered by equality for 2111.
