In Dedication X And gladly would he learn, and gladly teach. — Chaucer This year we would like to dedicate our yearbook to a man who has been in school administration for thirteen years, the last two years at Atkinson High School. After graduating from Media High School in 1954 as the salutatorian of his class, Mr. Wendell Torrance attended Western Illinois University on a teacher's training scholarship. After attending the university for two years, Mr. Torrance was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad and worked for that company for eleven years. Having always had the desire to work with young people, he returned to college and received his bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University in 1968. Three years later he received a master's degree in educational administration from Illinois State University. Mr. Torrance also completed work on the Superintendent's Endorsement, which is one year beyond the master's degree, in 1974. Wendell Torrance was born and raised on a farm in Henderson County, Illinois. In 1956 he married Margie Morris, a graduate of Biggsville High School. The Torrances have three children: Randy 23, Greg 20, and Eric 10. They also have a granddaughter, Heather, age 3. When asked how he liked being principal at AHS, Mr. Torrance said, ''I am proud to be a member of the faculty at Atkinson High School. I work with an excellent staff, superintendent, and board of education, and I enjoy the challenge of working with young people on the high school level. We, the students of AHS, would like to thank you, Mr. Torrance, for all the friendship you have shared with us and all the help you have given us. We wish you the best of luck in your future years as our principal and friend.
