As you leaf through the pages which lead us down the paths of yesterday, we hope that they will, in years to come, remind you of the spirit, experiences, and lasting friendship of the past year at Atkinson High School. We of the senior class will soon try to make a place for ourselves in this modern world. To be successful, we will need the knowledge we have gained from our classes, the wisdom we have learned from our teachers, and the common sense we have acquired both in and out of school. Let us be thankful that we have had the privilege of attending Atkinson High School, a school that could give us these things, and so prepare for our lives ahead. Sylvia Van Stechelman Mary Margaret Van Vooren Dedication We, the Senior Class of Atkinson High School, wi sh to dedicate this, the 1963 edition of the Tiger, to Miss Arlene Busch, our commercial teacher and good friend. We feel that she is worthy of this dedi- cation because of her sincere interest in all of her pupils both scholastically and per- sonally. We deeply appreciate all the help and guidance she has given us in the short time she has been here. . ' , , 'g .- :Q gr, if , 5.. 1. ' .Q -:Il gg, ' - g f ii ,. , , T ' L ' L ' i 1 L. Message I am very grateful to the students, parents, school staff and board members for the excellent support that has been given to me over the past several years. Education, like many other fields of endeavor, needs cooperation and in my opinion cooperation is the key that unlocks many doors and overcomes what seems to be unsurmountable obstacles. When progress has been made as it has at Atkinson then the above mentioned groups should be very proud that their efforts have culminated in worthwhile and productive gains which will live forever. ddfffaaj Mr. Howard Allison, agriculture teacher, is pic- tured here with his wife, Maurine. Prophecy Ladies, I am throwing a big party tomorrow night, and I want the house thoroughly cleaned. Mary Margaret, you take the upstairs and Sylvia, you take the downstairs. It was the voice of our employer, Roger Yordy, international playboy, assigning us our duties for the day. Roger graduated with us from our old alma mater, Atkinson High School, twenty years agog and who would 've ever dreamed that today we would be working as his maids! As Roger left the house we began our separate tasks. It wasn't long, however, before we laid aside our mops and pails and sat down with a cup of coffee to leaf through our old 1963 yearbook which Sylvia had found in the library. We thought it might prove interesting to read over the prophecy to see how many of our former classmates actually fulfilled the things prophesied for them. Steve Carton was expected to make use of his experience in construction work, and start his own com- pany, the Carton Construction Corporation. This must not have appealed to Steve because he is now the mayor of his old stomping grounds, Geneseo. Everyone thought that someday Jackie Hathaway would own a large horse ranch, but before she got around to this her pony tail became famous and she is now traveling around the world showing off this creation. Doris Baele was prophesied to become a famous model in New York but everyone should have guessed that Doris would most naturally become a women 's basketball coach. Because of Carol Floming's ability in P.E., we supposed that she might become a Physical Education teacherg but instead she became a bunny at the Playboy Club. She always seemed to have a natural knack for things like that! We really were surprised when we came across Roger 's name and found that our employer was supposed to own a large sheep farm. He sure isn 't doing that now! It was believed that about this time Francis Rhodes should be playing as the main attraction at the Sands Hotelg however, as we all know, Fran had a terrible dislike for razors so he became a beatnik because he just couldn't bear to shave off his beard. Two of our former classmates have become famous authors. Carolie Grypp has written a best seller, lg Eirsy V-it-E 2 EE Weigg based on her own experiences, in spite of the fact that everyone believed she would surely invent a sneeze preventative. Kenny Cleair is the author of the Pulitzer prize winner, -lm Witty Wayg Q Keep Your Friends in Stitches. It seems he wasn't tied up as long in giving his car an even paint job as expected. Lowell Peck made a stab at what was prophesied for him when he attempted to prove Einstein a fake, but this mad scientist failed and now he is just a plain old cotton-picker. Naturally, Mary Kay Doubler was expected to run a Duroc farm, but' no one was really surprised when she started sponsoring teen hops. Whenever anyone saw Dave DeGeeter, they supposed he would probably open a Hurley's Hairstyling Sa- lon, but who would have ever dreamed he turned out to be a---COP ?! Denny Vandersnick made a big success of himself in becoming President of the Snickers Corporation: but, in a way, he probably still wishes that he could 've been a ladies' man in the movies as was prophesied for him. Since Peggy Williams had always done a good job advertising for the Comet Combo, we thought she would surely become their agent, but she is in Hollywood now, working as Luella Parsons right hand man. Judy Billiet took IBM training and was expected to carry on this work, but she has been spending the better part of her life experimenting with a painless mouse-catcher. So far it has proved very effective for her. Kenny Martens was believed to become a millionaire off his dad's farm, but he suddenly went bankrupt when a group of lil' mice invaded and ate up all his profit. Jean Rhodes surprised everyone when she fulfilled her life-long dream of becoming a taxicab driver rather than a famous opera singer. We underestimated Dan Brumas when we prophesied him as becoming a bum, because he has really made a success of himself as a Saber-tooth tiger trainer. Paul Wyffels was certainly the type to become a rich farmer, but we hear that he is working as a barber in Hollywood making a mint off of his famous bowl-cut. It was generally suspected that Loraine DeWindt would become the wife of the Air Force Lt. to whom she was betrothed. However, a Navy colonel came along and swept her off her feet and the Air Force and Navy have been feuding ever since. We will never figure out how Chuck Davis became the owner of a chicken farm because we all know he had such a great love Oy for chickens. It was just naturally believed that he would open his own Chinese restaurant. Keith Noard, who was always our star athlete seemed to be a natural for the position of quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, but Keith is now president of the Beaver Dam Building Corporation. Realizing that everyone else from the class of 1963 has made such a success of his life, we are a bit saddened by the fact that we are merely maids. Sylvia was supposed to have become the private secretary to the president of the Ford Corporation. Mary Margaret, with all her queenly characteristics, was expected to become Miss America someday. We are glad that so many of our former classmates have found fame and fortune and we hope that they will have much happiness in the years to come. Senior Class Wills I, DORIS BAELE, will my shooting arm to COACH DAVIS so he can use it to have a good basketball team next year. I, DAN BRUMAS , will my quiet personality to DENNY VANMEENEN so he can throw quiet tantrums next year. CI'm sure the teachers will thank me for thislj I, JUDY BILLIET, being of sound mind and body hereby will my trap to catch mice to aid the Home Ec Department in catching their mice. I, STEVE CARTON, will my ability to miss Atkinson baske tb a ll games to go to Geneseo to my brother KEITH. I, DAVE DEGEETER, will my long hair to RONNIE CARTON so his head won't get cold next year. I, IDRAINE DEWINDT, will my diamond to EILEEN BUYSSE so this time it will be real. I, LOWELL PECK, being of sound mind and body, hereby bequeath my nickname, B. F., and all that goes with it to JIM BUYSSE in the hopes that he will carry on this most original custom and pass it on to the next eligible junior when the time comes. 1, JEAN RHODES, win my singing ability to ANDREA JENNES. I, FRANCIS RHODES, leave many happy memories to any following A.H.S. student who might wish to take them over. I also leave my hair and guitar to any Freshman that might come in with a bald head and no fingers. I, DENNY VANDERSNICK , will my blue truck and my good looks to GARY DE CAUSEMAKER so he can be the Cassanova of the school next year.
