SENIOR ASS HISTORY In September of l9hh Miss Edith Sampson greeted nineteen cheerful little children. Roll call was answered by Beverly Hagan, Phyllis Hagan, Shirley McClelland, Mary Stark, June Schueler, Carol Wilhelmi John Carbaugh, Fred Fett, Donald Knock, Thomas Lieb, Arlo Sass, Paul Mitchell, David Nelson, Wendell Phelps, David Primrose, Kenneth Sander, Allan Schanbacher, Richard Tobiason, and David Whiting. In our second year of school our teacher was Mrs. Olson. The class numbered eighteen with the loss of June Schueler, Donald Knock, Wendell Phelps, and Kenneth Sander, and gaining Velma Sradfield, Darlene Jenson, and Margaret Whelen. Miss Dora McNulty was our third grade teacher. We gained Harry Hershey, Mike O'Connell, Russell Sohueler, Janet Abernathey, Jacqueline Martin, Marcia Hanson, Ronda Hafkey, Mary Long, and Clifford Drafahl, but lost him the second semester. We also lost Velma Bradfield, Margaret Whelen, and Darlene Jenson. Our fourth grade teacher was also Miss McNulty. We lost David Nelson, David Whiting, Janet Abernathey, Marcia Hanson, and Ronda Hafkey. We gained Frederick Swallom. Our fifth grade teacher was Mrs. Evalena McNamara. This year we lost Mary Long, and Jacqueline Martin. Mrs. McNamara was also our sixth grade teacher. We lost Shirley McClelland, and Arlo Sass, but gained Jim Hobson, Roger Haerther, Donna Ness, and Jo Ann Meyers. Our seventh grade teacher was Miss lone O. Benesh. We gained Dean Hatfield, Duane Wipple, Donald McDowell, and lost Frederick Swallom. Mrs. Jones was our eighth grade teacher. We lost Roger Haerther and gained LuVern Marti, Betty Sankey, and Jeanene Speer, but lost her in the second semester. There were eighteen happy students graduating from the eighth grade that year. They were: John Carbaugh, Beverly Hagan, Phyllis Hagan, Dean Hatfield, Jim Hobson, Thomas Lieb, Donna Ness, Paul Mitchell, Mike O'3onnell, David Primrose, Russell Schueler, Mary Stark, Richard Tobiason, Elinor Van Buskirk, Duane Wipple, Carol Wilhelmi, Luvern Marti, and Betty Sankeyo Initiation was our first big thrill in our Freshman year. Mr. Kempf was our class sponser. We gained Roger Haerther, Jim Happel, Roger Krug, Arlo Sass, Allan Sohanbacher, and Charles Wendel from the Parochial School and Mary Jane Reid from Lisbon. We lost Betty Sankey the second semester because of sickness. Mrs. Fleckenstein was our class sponser for our Sophomore year. We gained David Van Buskirk and Drland Hecker that year, but lost them along with Flinor Van Buskirk the second semester. We also gained Lou Ann Halbleib from Fredericksburg. Mrs. Fischer was our class sponser for our Junior year. We ran the canteen at all the home games and also planned the Junior, Senior Banquet which was held in the Florentine Room of the Roosevelt Hotel in Cedar Rapids on April 23, 1955. Our class play, UCharley's Auntu was presented on October 29, l95h. Our class sponsors for our last year in school were Mr. Robert Timmons, and Mrs. Fleckenstein.
