W ICI-XT D I HISTORY OF THE ATHOL PUBLIC SCI-10015 The Athol Public School was built in 1911 High School had been started in Athol previous to this date however the year ol 1900 ln the first years from 1900 to 1915 pupils were graduated at the end of two years rather than the cus tomary four years of today High School has been held in Athol every year from 1900 except from 1911 through 1914 and the school year 1945 4-6 The floor plan of the building is as follows in the basement are the handroom, Iurnace room, and the play room on the first floor are the primary and intermediate grades, and on the second iloor are the high school assembly three class rooms an office and a book room The number of high school students who were gradu ated from the Athol 1-hgh School is two hundred and ilve The number oi former Athol students ln service during the two World Wars was thirty five The largest class graduated from the school was the class of 1941 with a total of twelve members The smallest was in 1900 with only one graduate Elmer Weideman Chairman of the school board has served in this capacity for six years Edward Galvin Presi dent of the Board has served four years and Wayne Wise who ts Secretary was elected two years ago SC HOOL BOAR D ELLAER WEIDEMAN ED GALVIN WAYNE WISE SCHOOL CUSTODIAN Berton Van Houten was born and re ceived his education m the Northville Schools He was married April I9 1941 to Alecia O Connor They have three children Veronica George and Gloria jenn Mr Van Houten was employed by the of years before entenng the service Feb Z2 l94-3 and spent most of his txme France He was discharged july 31 1945 after serving twenty nxne months I-lehas held his present position as janitor of ithe Athol School since Oct 1945 N u Lien Construction Company for a number .
