ALPHA PSI OMEGA celebrates its 50th anniversary of national organization as a college drama honor society . The year was marked on the ASG campus with ALPHA PSI OMEGA being responsible for campus theatrical productions, the post of drama director being left vacant in this year of transition from private to state college. Dr. McLin organized and directed a community theatre for children with the production of THE MERRY PRANKS OF TYLL EULENSPIEGEL- two casts and four performances, all sold out. Randy Johnson, student, directed one of the casts, assisted by Karen Ryberg, with Harry Howe and crew doing sets and lighting, in February, Harry, assisted by Karen and others, directed the popular YOU CAN ' T TAKE IT WITH YOU with all-student cast and crew. In the spring, Dr. Laubenthal assisted by Randy, Karen, and others, produced a huge bicentennial community show. President June Gooley, SEATED, with Linda Gay and vice-president Harry Howe, STANDING, advisors Dr. Penne Laubenthal and Dr. Elva McLin with members Prof. Elma Pepper, College President Sidney Sandridge, Karen Ryberg, and Curtis Tomlin. Undergraduate members not shown are Connie Prater Faulkner, Randy Johnson, and Myra Sparks. 101 CHILDREN ' S THEATRE Tyll Eulenspiegel, the country wit who outmaneuvered the city slickers in medieval German legends, played to full houses in McCandless in November. Dr. Elva McLin produced the play and directed one of the two casts, with student Randy Johnson, assisted by Karen Ryberg, directing the other. The very young cast members enjoyed the play tremendously and it seemed of almost secondary interest that the audiences enjoyed it too. Elementary schools in the community released students to attend. Cast and directors hope that this initial effort will result in an Arts Council- sponsored children ' s theatre workshop this summer. Todd Williams and Cherokee Ward pose in costume as Tyll and his loyal friend Gretchen. Cast One poses around the big kitchen fireplace and ovens, set designed by student Harry Howe. The children and their mothers designed the costumes after studying medieval European dress. 102 MERRY PRANKS OF TYLL Athena Children ' s Theatre Performances at McCandless Auditorium Athene College Admission 50 cents CTERS CAST 1 Thursday Nov. 20 12-noon Saturday Nov. 22 10 am CAST 2 Friday Nov. 21 12-Noon Saturday Nov. Such activities have in- cluded dinners, retreats, outings, trivia bowls, and cookouts. The Student-Chairmen for this year have been Steve Williams and Rhett Hagler. Along with their lea- dership has been the eminent and selfless support of the college ' s Danforth Associates, Dr. Mildred Caudle and Dr. Bert Hayes. The Danforth Committee is recognized as being a truly beneficial arm of this institution, whereby students and faculty can come together in a relationship difficult to attain in a regular classroom atmosphere.
