In our lives there may be a million or so faces, making their brief and fading impression on our minds. A few of them become more than just faces. They become real people we can cling to. In short, they become friends. Tom was such a person. He came into peoples ' lives with a smile, and his smiling spirit made them smile. He had a bold and tenacious out- look on life, which he gave freely to anyone who would reach out to accept it. This outlook offered hope and promise for the future, plus a view of man ' s potentialities. His ability to share his outlook with others and make them aware of their own potentialities was Tom ' s unique talent. The memory of Tom will remain fresh as long as we who knew him live, for he gave us more than just his smile and his radiant personality. He gave us himself. Tom, you were our friend; but, what is more, you were our example in Christian living. No man, no matter what heights he achieves, can do more than this. Your youth, your memory, and your pattern for living will serve us all our lives. Your life and what you stood for have guided us as we prepared this book. It is with humb le gratitude that we offer you our poor effort and dedicate it to your memory.
