WE WORK ' Boost Athens College Endowment. Dear Mom Senator Sparkman Two heads are better than one. THE EDITOR SPEAKS You are looking at a book that tells the story of Athens College for the school year 1953-1954. It is not a complete story, by any means, but I hope that it will bring back many pleasant memories of the good times we have had together at Athens. Athens College is an old institution. It survived the Civil War by the graciousness of President Lincoln. It has stood through two World Conflicts and I am convinced that it shall stand for many years to come. The College is undergoing redecorations and extensive repairs both on the outside and on the inside. Aliunni who return after having been away for a few years are in- spired and awed by the improvements. Athens College has been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools for a study to be made this year. I feel that the College is meeting the requirements of the Association. All are hopeful of its being admitted to member- ship in the Association this fall. Yes, telling the story of Athens College has not been all roses, but neither has it been all thorns. Although the mountains were hard to cross and the oceans were deep, I think the experience I have gained has completely repaid me for my difficulties. It has been a pleasure for Dr. Fairman, for the Staff, and for me to bring the history of the one hundred twelfth year of Athens College to you.
