I New Orleans. I was sitting at my table par- taking of the evening meal when I chanced to hear a group of people at the next table speak- ing of River ' s Academy. Since I was going there, I glanced in the speaker ' s direction to see who they might be. Much to my surprise I discovered that they were all old scliooinKites of mine. I hastened over to their table to see what had brought them together in this iit . They were surpried to see me and explained to me that each one was going hack to Athens College and they just chanced to meet at this tavern. Since we were all hound for the same destination and we were all friends we decided to travel together. This made six in the party. Nevertheless, before I proceed further with m story, methinks 1 should tell you who each npus life while time spent in the lid Margaret had ion so they began There was, first, Ellen Church, who had been a tudent at the Academy when she was a girl. She moved to Washington in her Junior year. Second, there was Alba Bueno, a clexer little Ciilian girl who had come to River ' s Academy to learn to speak English. After a year there vhe had gone back home. There was Martha Hightower, who had jiraduated from River ' s Academy and then had gine to New York to study dramatics. The fourth in the party was Alice Peeples, a lovely girl from Tennessee, who had been in Athens during her Senior year. The fifth was Margaret Swaney, a girl who had been prominen River ' s Academy. And the sixth member of the party, of course, was I. Each of us was anxious to know where the others had been in the h since our acquaintance at the Academy. So we all decided to while a plane on the way by telling our experiences of the past few ear . been roommates in Athens aiid the had continued to go together after first: After we left River ' s Academy we went together through college. Upon graduation from there we left . ' merica on a tour of the world. We had many exciting times on this trip but we were i lad im ;, t l ai k hmw. Then we studied art in New York for a year. We specialized in costume lU-l-iiinu ami planiml uiaiix .il the clothes for the Mardi Gras held in New Orleans. Since m ' had to lir in Ni l)il,aiis we dn uled to go back to Athens and see the school and just The second one to relate her experiences was Alba, who said; I went back to Cuba after leaving my friends in America, where I stayed for some time. My family decided to move to Spain so I went with them. I lived there for a few months but I was dissatisfied in that coun- try so I went back to Cuba. There I did some work as an interpreter of English. Then I de- cided to pay a visit to my old school. 1 came to America by way of New Orleans and I am so happy that Fate has brought us together again. These were all the stories we heard on our trip for it was a short trip from New Orleans to .Athens li air and we had time for no more. With condiiting eniolions — memories of a happy past aiul regrets that all xvere not present — we approached our old school. The campus was greatly changed and we met almost all new- faces, but Founder ' s Hall with her four columns, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the Crow ' s Nest and our centuries-old trees and the old LaGrangc bell — still gripped u; with their power of majesty and traditions of yore.
