The Editors of the 1960 Trojan dedicate this Fiftieth Anniversary edition to the three who have served as principals during the fifty- year history of Athens High Schoolg to the memory of the late Mr E. B. Mellg Mr. Sam Wood, Superintendent of Clarke County Schoolsg and Mr. Guy Driver, our present principal. MR. SAM WOOD Mr. Wood has devotedly served this community for eighteen years. He came to Athens as assistant principal of Athens High School in 1942 and served as principal from the spring of 1943 through 1951. ln September of 1951 he became Instructional Su- pervisor of the Athens City Public School System. Mr. Wood began leading one of the most progres- sive schools in the State as Superintendent of Clarke County Schools in April of 1956. MR. GUY DRIVER Mr. Driver has been principal of our high school since 1951. Athens High has shown remarkable growth and improvement under his leadership.

Also during this time the school has only occupied three school plantsg the High School on Childs Street from 1909 to 1915, the old Court House on Prince Avenue from 1915 thru 1952, and our own High School here on Milledge Avenue since the fall of 1952. During this fifty year period we have had three principals: the late Mr. E. B. Mellg Mr. Sam Wood, now our Super- intendent of Clarke County Schoolsg and Mr. Guy Driver, who now serves as principal.
