Valedictory ONE STEP AT A TIME, BUT ALWAYS FORWARD Yes, this 1S it' This is the night to Wh1Ch we have long looked forward, our graduation This 1S the night when we shall meet for the last time as the class of fifty seven, the night when we must stop thinking of our School Days and start th1nk1ng of our Future Days Those days should be happy ones that w1ll lead us closer and closer to our goal which we can reach only through time and education We believe that when we receive our high school d1plomas, we have completed our f1rst step in education But aside from getting our diplomas, we have also accomplished something else We have learned how to get along with other people and we have made fr1ends These are accomplishments that w1ll hold a pos1t1on of importance throughout our entire l ives This first goal has been a big step, and we have all enjoyed taking it as a class But once this phase is f1RlShed we must push lt from our most immediate thoughts and turn to future goals The steps cult to take, others may be small and easy It all depends upon us as individuals Even though it is only one step at a time, we must take them forward, and make the most of them For if we are to reach the highest goal that we have set for ourselves, we must work hard, study hard, and do our best in everything Today, the greatest goal for each and every one of us 1S to reach for a free world We must str1ke out communism and its deadly ways We must strike out the dictatorships, and people who want to destroy our free world We must do these Ch1HgS if we are to keep our much loved freedom We will have to fight for freedom for the rest of our l1ves if we wish to keep it The people of today, including myself, think of freedom as something that has always been but we are all mistaken' A lot of our boys have died for our country, fighting for the freedom they all loved But these won't be the last Many more will sacri fice their lives before we will have a completely free world We must learn in order to be brave, we must learn 1n order to be strong, and last, but not least, we must learn how to 1mPIOVe our world We must make it a better place 1n which to live, for the generation of today, and for the up coming one of tomorrow So that we can make it a better world, we must fight against communism and agression Yesterday, today, or tomorrow, to Wh1ChEVeI t1me we turn our thoughts, the tomorrows are always the br1ghtest hopes So, 1f we take one step at a time, but always forward, the brightest hopes of tomorrow will continue to be bright, and we will surely succeed Jean Wise Valed1ctor1an f , . . . ll H - ' ' I1 ll that we have yet to take are many.
