A MESSAGE TO PATRONS AND STUDENTS OF THE ATHENS HIGH SCHOOL , FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT DR S. R LEMAY A story of an event or period may be told either in words or by picturesg The purpose of this year book is to portray the storyeofthe happenings in this high school throughout the school year by means of pictures ' V Of course, there are many phases of our school program that cannot be shown with picturesu Some of these intangible assets of school are the strength of its faculty, its school organizatw ion, the curriculum, and the record of its graduates in collegeq and in lifea 'Although these things cannot be shown in a pich tured story, this year book will make it possible for students who participatediJ1the current school program to recall in their memories the complete school program and to feel again the im- pact of this program on their livesu The annual this year is dedicated to former students and an lumni who are serving in the armed forces of our country, I wish that it might be possible to give the complete history of our graduates in this great conflicto Even though at this time it is not possible to tell the whole story of the contribution of this high school in this gigantic struggle, we do know that our graduates are writing a magnificent recordn Graduates of the high school were on Bataan when it fell to the enemy Today the alumni of this school are in England, Africa, Australia, and India, The army camps of this country, the ships of our navyd and the skies of Texas, the nation, and the world are filled with graduates of this high schoolu Where ver they are, they can.all be counted on to do their duty in the same dependable way that they performed the tasks set up for them by their teachers while students in this high school, Gif
