Carefree freshmen leave their three years in junior high school behind them to start their new year in the tenth grade as sophoniores. Athens High is growing as the years go by. This year we are happy to welcome 31 new stu- dents. Coach Carl Garrison has been working with the linemen while Coach Bobby Wood has been working with the backfield, each coach trying to bring his group to the peak of physical perfection before the first game of the season with their age-old rivals from Decatur. Head Coach Buddy May has been working hard to mold everyone into a part of a perfectly functioning team. On Friday, August 31, the Eagles held their first night scrimmage under the lights. They began by doing their usual exercises and a few drills to get loosened up. Then the coaches divided them into an offensive and a defensive team and then the boys went at it. When asked what he thought of the scrimmage, Coach May said, Hliverybefly showed a lot of de- :fire and the spirit was good. I think we have a good chance of having a successful season this year.
