The game was strictly hard- hitting, hard-tackling defense. The foot ball spirit was behind every Eagle player. Sheffield's deepest penetration was to the Athens' 21, but there was only 10 seconds play. Jeep Bruce knocked down a pass and the game was soon over. To the Eagle players the O-0 tie was a victory, since this was the best game they had played. Throwing off one man, Billy Joe Scott turns on the steam for more yardage. V i GENE WILLIAMS STEVIE WILLIAMS DENNIS WHITT MOULTON Vs. ATHENS The Athens Golden Eagles suffered their third straight defeat by a score of 13-6 against the Moulton Red Devils. Athens's only touchdown came early in the first quarter from a bad center by the Red Devils on their three-yard line. Jeep Bruce scored around left end, but Jackie Greenhaw's attempt for the extra point around the same end failed. Moulton scored later in the same quarter making the extra point that put them ahead. Looking for an opening, Jackie Greenhaw plows into the line. COFFEE Vs. ATHENS The Coffee Yellow Jackets downed the Golden Eagles by a score of 32- 6. The Eagles gave the Yellow Jack- ets a near heart attack when they recovered a fumble on the Coffee nineteen in the opening moments of the game. In three plays Stevie Williams went over the goal line on a quarterback sneak. Bobby Coggin missed the try for the extra point. Coffee quickly came back and tied the score and went ahead before the half to stay, but the Eagles made them earn every point. BUTLER VS. ATHENS Missing an extra point proved to be costly when the Golden Eagles went down in defeat by a score of 7-6 to the Butler Rebels. A 41- yard run by Jeep Bruce to the Butler six-yard line set up the possibility of a touchdown but the Rebels held the Eagles for four downs. Athens's score came late in the second quarter from a 25-yard pass from Stevie Williams to Billy Joe Scott. The Rebels came back and scored and booted the extra point, which was the margin of victory. The Eagles tried hard but could never score again. Jackie Greenhaw and Jeep Bruce form the battering ram for Donnie Black.
