ATHENS The Athens Golden Eagles' first game of its grid season was lost 27-9 to their rivals, the Decatur Red Raiders. With pass inter- ceptions and Athens's fumbles, the Red Raiders were leading 21-O at the half. The charging Eagle line stopped the Raiders in the end zone for a two point safety. Bobby Coggins ran over left tackle 39-yards for a touchdown and then added the extra point. The last quarter was an exchange contest. Led by the Eagle linemen, Jeep Bruce turns up field for yardage. x P r VW ffizf ll to 2- BILLY .TOE SCOTT HARTSELLE vs. ATHENS The Athens Golden Eagles met Hartselle with a violent defeat. At the end of the half Hartselle led only 6-O. The last half the Eagles were lost among the fumbles and bad snaps from center which set up many of the Hartselle touchdowns. The fourth quarter the Eagles, directed by Stevie Williams, managed to move from their own 31 to the Hartselle two, but could not make the score. The Eagles' second game of the season ended with a 38-O defeat. Blocking by Jimmy Mobley and Jeep Bruce opens a hole around end for Jackie Greenhaw against Hartselle.
