Whatever We Imagine was the theme for home- coming week this year which was highlighted by the 82-64 victory over Porta February 8th. The dance on Saturday finished the week full of activities. Music was provided by the Hillsboro band “Traxx”. Spirit week events included relay races, a pizza eating contest, blind basketball toss, tug-of-war, and pud- ding feed. Music was supplied by Fugitive of which all members were Athens High School graduates. Directly after the meal, which was catered by Sangamon State, senior prophecies and wills were read. Also at this time. Ann Mitts was presented with a floral bouquet in respect to her retirement. Prom colors included red. white, and pink. Mrs. Brady presents Ann with a pretty flower bouquet. i ’’ ' The Athens High School seniors took a class trip to Chicago depart- ing May 1 at 6:00 a m. and returning May 4 at 9:30 a m. Accomoda- tions for the twenty-two seniors and two sponsors. English teacher Holly Henning and History teacher Mary Jane Hune, were at the Mart Plaza Holiday Inn. During the trip they visited exposition halls such as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Shedd Aquarium Nighttime activities included Sec- ond City Comedy Theatre. Chinatown, and a lake cruise. Other sites were the Brookfield Zoo, the Bahai Temple and tours of the Sun- Times, the Garfield Park Conservatory, and the Old Water Tower The trip ended with a day at Marriot’s Great America. The Class of 1985 was graduated from Athens High School on May 31, 1985. During the ceremony, many awards and honors were announced. The prestigious Student-of-the-Year Scholarship was awarded to Donna Burris and Mindy Thomas. 1. Christina Barrington received the Athens Education Association Scholarship. 1. Each year they raise money and present Homecoming among other dances. They also give scholarships during graduation. This year Student Council bought a new public sign for the high school. 21 This year the 1985 Yearbook Staff held a free car-wash supported by pledges and donations to help fund the 1985 yearbook. Selling candy and the sale of yearbooks also help in funding the yearbook. The annual food basket drive was a success with the help of other school organizations. During the Christmas season, members learned how to make festive candies and in the spring, we learned how the Color Me color analysis system works. Also in the spring, FHA sponsored a Mystery Dinner for FFA and FHA members. Improving steadily, the team won five out of their last nine games. They received third place in the New Salem Conference and won 1 game in the Regional against Virden. Highest batting average was accomplished by Jim Carter at a high of 435. Carter was also voted as MVP of the season. The varsity squad placed sixth out of sixteen squads during the annual Waverly Tournament competition. Debbie Mogle was varsity captain and Cindy Doud junior varsity cap- tain. S3 The 1984-85 Pom-pon squad performed at 14 home games during the basketball season.
