When negotiations be- tween teachers and board stalled, the Athens Education Association declared an im- passe and vigorously tried to reopen talks and to reach a settlement. However, when a salary schedule was imposed, the teachers felt that the only option left open to them was to call for a strike vote. On Sept. 2, 1980, setting a prece- dent for all teachers, the Ath- ens Education Association voted to strike. After three days, with the assistance of mediators and vocal commu- nity support, the strike was settled and teachers and stu- dents could return to the business at hand. 6 '‘Photograph reprinted by permission from the State Journal-Register. Summer days and country nights, All of the memories shared Of days so simple made so special By friends who loved and cared. Remember all the hopes and wishes, The dreams that did come true. Reflect on the mistakes and the blessings And those who gave so much, Their friendship and their laughter — A feeling no other can touch! Remember we hold a song in our hearts For every one of you. We hope this Country Night will be special. Lots of love from the Class of '82.
