The senior class and the Yearbook Staff wish to dedicate the 1979 Warrior to the Varsity Basketball team — the rowdy Warriors. The Warriors experienced a successful year, compiling a record of 21-6 and winning both the Williamsville Tournament and the Wavcrly Holiday Tournament. These Warriors rekindled our school spirit, enthusiasm, and school pride. The students and community really backed our team because it's so much fun to be a winner.” VARSITY WARRIORS Bob Balster Dave Baugher Dan Campbell Jeff Canterbury Steve Gustafson Scott Henrickson Jeff Nance Tim Roberts Kevin Walker Pat Walsh Roger Walsh Coach Jack Roemer IPMMJl!© ®f? Homecoming activities were postponed and delayed when another snowstorm closed school for two days. The auction of cheerleaders and basketball players was again the highlight of the week. Student Council worked furiously decorating for the dance, only to do it again when the dance was postponed for a week due to another snowstorm. 39 1979 Homecoming Court — Freshman Attendants — David Irwin, Vita DiGiovanna; Junior Attendants — Scott Henrikson, Sheila Ethell; Senior Attendants — Roger Walsh, Ellen Emmerich, Steve Gustafson; King and Queen — Pat Walsh, Lori Brady; 1978 Queen — Kelly Choates; Senior Attendants — Lynne Cooper, Dave Baugher; Junior Attendants — Pam Wilcox, Tim Rankin; Sophomore Attendants — Brenda Wells, Richard Dirks. 40 i i i Oi i Oi i C i C i i i OC C 42 4' tf'M CM®©L CDSOSSfl OBEY YOUR SIGNAL ONLY School Zone Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen 65 83 77 89 J 45 ONE WAY Nancy Dougherty Ward Cantral Lynne Cooper Dan Campbell Libby Cole Candy Conover Rick Draughan Chris Clibum Mark Dunaway jo Ellen Busch Lon Coady Pam Dixon Joe Dyer Ellen Emmerich Kim Evans Kenny Foulk Pennie Garmers V Cheryl Eubanks Greg Giddings Steve Gustafson Sandy Hall Dan Gaston Mike Jones Susan Kimmons ■KJ1 Luann Irwin Sharlyn Jensen David Kissirk Mary Ann Moss Kim Manning Susan Moss Sherry Martin Vicki Muller 49 Roger Walsh Senior Class Officers (left to right): Lori Brady, Secretary; Nancy Dougherty, Trea- surer; Pam Dixon, Vice-President; Chris Clibum, President. SOUNDS OF A SMALL TOWN IN ATHENS Awakening to a crisp, clear morning and fresh air With the crickets chirping in off-key tunes. The stillness broken only by the newspaper man And his daily delivery (when most people would much rather be asleep). Good mornings” and How are you’s” Float in the quietness of the early day, As do the crackle and crunch of gravel When the cars all begin their routine journeys Carrying late passengers to work. The comer grocery opens its doors, A Reduced Prices” sign posted on its Windex-clean glass doors. People arc up and about, getting their mail. Drinking their coffee, gossiping, their Did you hear about. . .?” conversations Passing from one person to another. The smell of fresh doughnuts from the cafe Fills the air, And the laughter of kids on their way to school Ripples across the wind, somehow masking, but Not completely drowning out the historical memories Of Lincoln days. A small town, though it sometimes seems unimportant. Possesses a quaint beauty and a peaceful atmosphere. And there is a door to the past and history, hidden Somewhere in the quietness, just waiting to be unlocked. — Monica Gaston As the Warrior Journey for 1979 draws to a close, we pause to crystallize the memories of this year in our minds These memories include a fantastic basketball season, decorating and redecorating for Homecoming, conferring with counselors, studying for exams, sitting through good and not so good” assemblies, and trying to make the most of a shortened noon hour. in The wheel of life turns Without pause After the rain, good weather In the wink of an eye The universe throws off its muddy clothes For seven thousand miles the landscape Spreads out like a beautiful brocade, light breezes, smiling flowers. High in the trees, amongst the sparkling leaves. All the birds sing in chorus Men and animals rise up reborn What could be more natural After sorrow, comes joy. by Zack Freeman 114 Remember Me I looked out the window 1 saw you in the moon You were shining brightly Like a polished silver spoon Whpn morning came, unasked for, I saw you in the sun You were smiling at me Remember all the fun? Many people know you But. I cannot recall If we were friends or lovers Or nothing at all MEMORIES By Kelley K Nance Inside my house I wandered One cloudy, raining day The children were off to school The breakfast dishes were put away I slowly walked up to the attic. Sat down by a huge chest. And carefully opened this chest of memories That were hidden in the past When I found a huge box of letters, A tear came to my eyes, For these were the letters Where memories of my love lie The years suddenly slipped by. As I read each precious scrawl. The priceless remembrances they gave me I treasured each and all. People say I’m crazy For living in the past But memories are beautiful Because they always last Debbie Thompson 115 SPRING SONG A soft and rain-washed morning Dawns upon a sleepy earth There’s a bright, new day beginning; It’s time to welcome spring's rebirth! A bucket full of sparkling colors Spills across the fresh, blue sky. Splashing gold and dusty lilac On the clouds as they roll by. From cocoons, the butterflies emerge, And spreading fragile, velvet wings They soar upon a silkened breeze To where the robin sings Now the sunlight floods the meadow. The silver stars all shyly fade — And all of nature opens eager eyes To see the beauty spring has made by Monica Gaston My Home Town My home town good old salt-of-the-earth Mid America hi Joe, How’s it goin?” My home town Gene and Marie’s Tavern, Cantrall’s Red Fox five churches and an Ice Cream Factory My home town no crime ’cept maybe a person doin’ 50 in a 25 school is good-home of the Warriors My home town Long Nine Museum, Geroge Olson combines drivin’ thru Main Street in August My home town by Barb Lockart Raindrops I sac and watch the raindrops, plop, plop. plop.
