On July 4, 1976 we will celebrate our 200th birthday. And what a celebration it should be! The freedom and dignity of human beings around the world is being abused, threatened, or de- stroyed—a freedom received from the hopes, ideals, and sacrifices of countless millions from the beginning of time. Although no government is perfect—being imperfect humans—we in the United States of America have so much to cherish and be thankful for. Nowhere in the world is there such free- dom as we possess. We are envied, feared, and hated because of what we have. No, our freedom did not begin at Lexington and Concord, Valley Forge, Yorktown, or Independence Hall! It has always been a part of our human nature. May we, the graduating class of 1976, rededicate ourselves and our country—with the help of God—to keeping alive that freedom. It is our right and duty as a free people.
