For years I've reported the Presidential Inauguration, but 5 year I'm really excited about it. One of the members of my graduating class of 1966, Terry Cundall, is ng inaugurated President of the United States today. To share the joys and happy moments with him, he invited all his old high school graduating class to enjoy the festivities. ... I think I'll go for a stroll around the town and maybe catch sight of some familiar faces. Why there is Admiral Pat Mitts, Secretary of Defense, and with him two other members of the new President's inet--Bruce Henrikson, Secretary of the Interior, and Candy Miller, Secretary of Health, Education, and Wel- e. It looks as though some of my classmates are fast becoming very important people. Let's see if President ndall has any of his other classmates working for him. It seems as though he does, Kathy Kelly, one of our leading veterinarians, is in charge of the President's pet's ilth. Donna Neavill is now his private secretary, and there's Marilyn Wells, his social secretary. Hello, Marilyn. I hear you've planned the President's Inaugural Ball. Could you tell us a little about it? Certainly. The music is going to be played by the Thomas Garmers' Orchestra and Lois Drury is going to g some of her latest folk songs. Terry Parkhurst, star of 'Parkey's Tonight Show,' is going to be our featured nedian. Thank you, Marilyn. Now I wonder who those two are that are following the President around. Why I al- st didn't recognize him! It's Tom Rinnus, secret agent 006, especially assigned by the new President. The er one is Larry DiGiovanna, President Cundall's body guard. With them is Dave Shanle, basketball coach U. of I. Two of the girls in the President's '66 class cancelled important assignments to be here. Barb Liggett, who low an actress, broke a movie contract, and Janet Shannon, fashion designer, cancelled her Paris showing in er to attend. Janet's business manager, Larry Rapp, had to stay in France to straighten out the schedule. I talked to Dottie Muller, head of I.B.M. and happily married, a short time ago. She told me that Dortha ldwell and Susan Finch were unable to attend because they were running their own clinic in Africa. Bonnie ry is leaving tomorrow to be the clinic's psychiatrist. The three of them are going to do scientific research. President of Smith-Corona, Inc., Peg Lawson, just walked in. She's throwing a big party for all of Washing- 's elite in honor of Terry's election. Behind her are Lucy Baker, who is instructing exoitc dancers at the iskey A-Go-Go in Hollywood, and Becky Kern, President of the Illinois National Bank. Jeanne Means ildn't be here, because she is head court reporter for the U.S. Supreme Court, and there is a special trial in cess. It's really surprising to find out what some of my old classmates are doing now. Pat Ratliff owns a chain of ome tax offices, the H R Block, and Dennis Cameron is the bossing manager of the world' heavyweight imp. Priscilla Ferguson is the head typist for Remington Electric. Roger Hughes, who is retired from the y, owns a string of grocery stores. Roger told me that Bob Wethington, one of the chief executives for Ideal ustries, and Joe Faith, a successful diesel mechanic, didn't think they would be able to come. There's another familiar face. It's Joe DiGiovanna and he has a whole baseball team (9 little boys). That : isn't quite as surprising. It looks like a couple of the guys are just taking life easy. Roger Bounds has been making millions off of ers millionaires and Steve Bell struck oil by accident and has been retired for the past 18 years. Things are going full swing now, but here comes some more people. I'm sure I know? I was right! It's Guy lton, Professor of Mathematics, at M.I.T. and Sam Hopwood, research physicist in charge of N.A.S.A. Well it looks like everyone in the old graduating class has had a good life. It's really surprising that a whole ss could be successful. But wait! Who is that over there? Nobody else, but Mike Freeman. He may not be well-to-do as the others, but he does look healthier! He's become the world's happiest beach bum! 21 HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF ’66 CLASS HISTORY Four years ago, the class of '66 was preparing for 8th grade graduation. At that time, we were all looking forward to high school. Today, as we are preparing for I high school graduation, we stop to look back on our high school days. As freshmen, we all met new people, and made new friends. Despite our small groups, we found that our class was really a close-knit group. We elected Sam Hop wood class president at our first class meeting. Nearly all of the freshmen joined the Pep Club and loudly supported the teams. When we returned as sophomores, we hardly recognized ole A.C. H.S. Half of the study hall seats had been removed and bookracks put up along the walls. The libran had been enlarged. We no longer used Room 9 as a lunch room, but ate at tables in the study hall. There were two new girls that fall, Barb Liggett and Lucy Baker. Wi elected Bruce Henrikson class president. Our ability to cooperate with each other really paid off that year when we won the first homecoming float trophy ever to be given for our Coming Home theme. When we came back as juniors, we were accustomed to the building and our class- mates. One new face was seen among the junior class--Jeanne Means. Peg Lawson was elected president. We all worked together and made a repeat performance by winning the Homecoming Float Trophy for A Bicycle Built for Two. We worked hard on our Junior play-- Dear Diary, which was the smash hit of the year, and th best play Athens High had ever seen. We then put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into plans for the prom, but In the Misty Moonlight was a wonderful prom and worth every bit of our work. The Student Council presidential elections really had the class divided into two groups - -those backing Pat Mitts, and those behind Bruce Henrikson. After a hard fought campaign, Bruce won. Our senior year has been a busy one. We chose Pat Mitts to lead us through the cha Joining us a few weeks after school started was shy, retiring Tom Rinnus. By this time we'd made a habit of winning the float trophy, and our Land of Tulips didn't let us down. Our senior play, The Egg I topped even Dear Diary to become Athens’ best play ever. With our days filled with announcements, caps and gowns, and plans for the future, it is hard to find time to think of the past, but when we do, we have to admit that the class of '66 has been a great one!
