All of the alumni that could possibly make it are on hand for the dedication of the five acre building. As I look over the crowd, I see many of the graduates from the good old days back in '58. Over there on the new baseball diamond I see Jim Holler, who, incidentally, just broke the world's record for running the mile, and Jim Buhr, who is basketball coach at the new school. Shirley Gabbert, who is a hostess at the Brown Derby, and Martha Henrikson, who is a movie star, just flew in from California by jet for the occasion. Wow! Look at that beautiful new T Bird! Isn’t that Jan Jensen driving it? He's a test driver at Ford now, and Donnie Lindsey, who's riding with him, is the atomic science teacher at the new high school. Kay Noonan, who is a cooking consultant, and Linda Oiler, who set a record for typing, are over there looking over the new solar powered kitchen. On the platform I see Charles Wells, the architect who designed the high school, and Judy Moklar, a model who was chosen to dedicate the new building. Kenny Bounds, an agricultural consultant for the State of Illinois, and Wayne Milner, who owns Illinois' largest chicken ranch, are over there discussing the price of eggs. Dorothy Hannibal, Joyce Marion, and Linda Pierceall are over viewing the school's new bowling alley. Dorothy is an actress on Broadway. Joyce is the ancient history teacher at the new school, and Linda is a fashion designer. Connie Landreth and Sharon Beaver couldn't make it due to the fact that they couldn't find baby sitters for their two sets of twins. Over there looking at the fleet of drivers' training cars, I see Delbert Weid-huner, Jim Wiker, and Bob Oiler. Delbert is well known for setting the motorcycle speed record. Jim designs crash helmets for jet pilots like Bob Oiler. Eugene Nance, a commander in the Navy, and Ronnie Grant, foremost satellite tracer, couldn't make it due to security regulations. Over in the electric typewriter repair room in the new school, I see Karen Pugsley, who operates an TBM machine. Deloris Carter, Sandy Davis, and Evelyn Fomoff are over there trying out the new public address system. Deloris owns a riding academy. Sandy has a job at General Motors measuring atomic rays sent off by the new Chevvies. Evelyn, the editor of the Daily Blab, is covering the dedication. Ronnie Wiseman, who is diamond prospecting in Brazil, and Lynn Canterbury couldn't make it to the celebration. Lynn, who was exploring the Belgian Congo, was last seen taken captive by a tribe of savage Ubangis. Darlene Powers, who is a missionary in Timbuctoo, sent us a telegram telling us that she was sorry she couldn't be on hand for this big reunion. Over there talking to Mr. Byram, who is still superintendent of schools, are Barbara Giacomini, Peggy Gard, and Anna Belle Yoakum. Barbara is a ballet dancer. Peggy is a flute player for the New York Symphonic Orchestra, and Anna Belle is a make-up artist in Hollywood. We have all enjoyed our visit with our former classmates tremendously and plan to all get together next at the launching of the first rocket to the moon. We have all signed up for the voyage. It is responsible for many of the parties and dances which dot the school calendar and also for supplying the school with the candy and pencils. It was the Student Council, who, in 1953-54 got the ball rolling for the study hall lights and, just recently, bought the new water coolers. It has done many fine things and will continue to do so as long as it remains the democratic organization it is now. CTUD CO ENT UN OIL The library has established a new system this year. Service 57 Athens High School January 23, 1958 Dear Mrs. Becker, We, the Seniors of 1958, wish to take this way of expressing our thanks to you for all the guidance, advice, and many little kindnesses you have extended to all of us during our Senior Year. Many favors are still present in our minds; some of which include the many hours you stayed with us after school aiding and helping us in any way you could to improve our book. Helping the coke sellers, through their crises, when they needed it most, showing us how to enjoy school life by making the most out of it, being our sponsor, our ego-primer, and just endless personal kindnesses. These things already are proving to be valuable to us in our last year of high school. Thanks again!
