Nancy Woods Betty Sanderfield Not Pictured. wau Pnophecif Through the facilities of X Y Z TV in Podunk, Nevada you are about to witness the launching of the Venus,” the first rocket ship ever to carry people to the moon. It will interest you viewers to know that all the members of this crew graduated from the high school at Athens, Illinois just twenty years ago in 1957. As the christening ceremony starts, we see Ronald Bryant the multi-millionaire who financed the project. His private secretary, Mary Jane Beal, is taking pictures of him as he gives his speech. Now that the short but appropriate speech is finished, Barbara Hollis, that famous commedienne on XYZ TV, prepares to christen the ship. If you will notice, to the right of your screen is a group that seems to be having a good time. I believe I see Dibby Brackhan who owns the largest private collection of animals in America. Dib, a great baseball fan, is listening as Jerry Wasilewski relates some of his experiences as short stop for the St. Louis Cardinals. Next to them Jean Meteer, wife of a wealthy livestock breeder in central Illinois, seems to be talking over old times with Rose Pierceall, Shirley Elmore, and Dorothy Wellington. They told me that they aren't going on the trip because they don't want to leave their families. Also I have a telegram here from Betty Babb who says she is sorry she can't be here, but she can't leave her mission in India. At the center of your screen and to the rear of the crowd, Jim Walker who drew the plans for the rocket ship, Edward Nichols, fore- man of the construction crew, Nancy Woods, who will operate the IBM computer to track the ship through space and Stanley Sharp, president of the company that produced the steel for the ship, are talking over technical points and possible improvements on latet ships. Now we'll switch you to Dick Dixon, our reporter situated at the hatch of this great rocket ship. He will give you a brief explanation of each crew members job as they board the ship to get ready for their departure. Folks, the first man you see coming aboard here is Jim Beaver, the pilot of the ship. He is accompanied by David Hackman, the radar technician who took up radar while serving in the Air Force. Next to board the ship will be Shirley Fawns, Dick Sybert, and Bronnie Jones, armed forces officers, and their secretary Nancy Grant. Their purpose is to investigate the possibilities of using the moon for defense purposes. This group is followed by Loren Deckard, the doctor for the crew and his assistant, Judy Wasilewski. Now we have two authors entering the ship. Helen Wirth is going to write a book about life on the moon. A professor of science at the University of Illinois and his wife, Nancy Hollis, are coming because they feel that such a project should be included in the science book that he is writing. Going along with these authors to draw illustrations for their books is that great commercial artist, Patsy Holler. I see two women coming now that I am sure the crew will appreciate. They are Beverly Davis, and Betty Sanderfield who have made extensive studies in home economics and are going to be the cooks and dieticians for the trip. Here are two men who were almost late. Charles Lindsey who developed the fuel for the Venus and is going along to make tests hoping to be able to improve it, just arrived with Arthur Tomlin in Art’s Cadillac. Art is now an engineer for General Motors and is going along to make studies of the terrain and atmosphere that will help in developing transportation facilities on the moon. Joyce Sanderfield and Donna Holler are working in the nylon division of the Dupont Company. They are going along to experiment with more efficient and less awkward space suits. Last but not least are three travelers and sight-seers. Carol Calvert, who worked as a secretary for Sango mo Electric, struck it rich on some oil stock, and having traveled all over the earth decided to extend her travels to the moon. She is followed by Dorothy Marion who cut short a tour of Europe to make this trip. The last person to enter before the hatch is closed is Jean Williams who left her career of big game hunting in Africa to seek adventure on the moon. Now we'll switch you back to Hermina Stier our reporter located at a safe distance from the ship. Hello folks, I think that you will agree that this is a very daring adventure that these people are about to experience. On your screens you see the police are moving the crowd of spectators back to a safe distance so that the Venus might take off. There's the all clear signal, and in twenty seconds these people will be on their way to the moon! 18 « V;;.- . .N- • ’ :jJv v ; •• ;r-:l' lt:.:t . . y : • ! v-v ' .-' -. • % .... .. . . . • •'Vi;, J ; , m « JJ' fflii? s'm, • V • • 4 i , € • ,71 ♦SV.Vfflv L; V X J?; n JiAi A .1 • 1 n: r; • ; 0 • W m , 9 Wt 1 %1 I s i i• gJ'Iff f .I.i — f I T 1 • « •i ll JT iV TOP ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Ronald Grant, Dorothy Hannibal, Martha Henridson, James Holler, Jan Jensen.
