The Athens Chapter was organized in 1949. Prior to that time, there was a similar organization here known as the Homemaking Club. The Athens Chapter consists of sixty-one members, thirteen of which are officers: President, Delores Deckardg Vice President, Karen Wilcox, Secretary, Janet Letzg umm. This year's activities include: Regular monthly meetings the second Wednesday of each month during activity period. A Thanksgiving basket to a deserving family, a group exchange of gifts at Christmas, sale of UNESCO stamps. The F. F. In Illinois ' 1. 0 3 O there are 512 schools presently offering vocational agri- culture. There are 33, 000 students taking agriculture in these schools, and 522 teachers are employed teaching these students. The Athens chapter currently consists of 37 members. Mr. H. E. The 57-piece band marched in the Horance Heidt Parade, the Columbus Day Parade, the Christmas Parade, the Fall Festival Parade, and the Normal Homecoming. Marching was a highlight for the band also at some of the home basketball games. At other games, the full band played, and at the games with the Springfield teams the Combo jazz band played many hot numbers. The ,ombo also played for the dance at the all-school Halloween party, and the full band played at the Unit Band Concert, the Christmas Concert, the Spring Concert, and the Abe Lincoln Festival at Crreenview. This year, the band had the loss of their praise-worthy band director, Mr. Mac, but the gain of a new hand director, Mr. John George, an ex-drum major and baritone player. So much interest among the student body was shown at the first meeting this year that 56 students became members. The following officers were elected: Theresa Muller, Presidentg Patty Seipel, Vice- Presidentg Mary Joyce Wasilewski, Secretary-Treasurer. These goals were set up for the Pep Club. Each member would attend as many games as possible. The members would wear green skirts and white blouses or sweaters at the games designated by the coach. Each member would be willing to raise money for the Athletic fund. Each member would show good sportsmanship, thus setting a good example for others to follow. In years to come it is hoped that the Pep Club will continue to follow these goals and add to them others which will help back up the cheerleaders in cheering the basketball teams on to victory. Phyllis followed. Honor Night is an old established custom at Athens High School. As early as April 17, 1925, Athens honored her athletes on their last appearance on the floor. The celebration consisted of presentation of letters, fairies hunting for a pot of gold which was found by the Goddess of Athletics fyes, that's what the 1925 annual said!l presenting of a traveling case to the coach, singing of the loyalty song, exhibition of the trophies, presentation of carnations to the members of the G. A. A. , presentation of the squad tournament championship trophy, introduction of the new Athletic Board, and the presenta- tion of the deed to the new athletic field. Since this time we find that there have been many improvements made. In 19 36 the band played at the ceremonies and the senior girls were officially proclaimed attendants to the queen by the Student Council. In 1938 the queen had a very lavish throne as well as a very full program. She had tumblers, a ballet dance, rhythmic calisthenics, and an illuminated Statuary. The present ceremony is much simpler but still carries on the tradition of honoring senior letter- men and crowning an Honor Night queen. Bonnie and her attendants.
