We wandered around in a daze for the first few days, getting used to the teachers and the schedule. By the end of the 4 first six weeks, the new had worn off and we had taken high school in our snide. ,A We took part in the magazine sale contest between freshmen and sophomores. QCA Needless to say we won. sly Q5 E569 ,f SEPTEMBER 1948 9 ,Zgr Back again to A, C, H, S. and oh so eager to show off our knowledge to the freshmen, o OGRJL, , We had a magazine sale again but this time broke even with the freshmen, We attempt- ed a party, but everything went wrong, We burnt the Barber-Q buns, just awfull SEPTEMBBZ 1949 Our junior year with all thewonderful things that go with it. We sold popcorn and ice Cream at the ball games and gave a play, lt was a comedy entitled The Whole Truth. Ham and Ann, starring, in the leading rolls, quickly found out it doesn't pay. It could be said that there was one play with a l-lam' actor. In the fall, we held a party, who stole the cider, Smitty? Finally, that long awaited event, the Junior-Senior Banquet, was held at Wash- ington Park Pavilion, A Hawaiian theme was used by the Junior Hosts, and went over well. Leis were probably seen all over Springfield after the banquet, and 'Ruthie' is still dream- ing of a Dummy, ssvrsmanz IQSO jf, drl .'jC.,,il Back for the last time. We sold hot dogs and cokes at the basketball games and spon- f- 1 ffgf y A' sored the milk machine. We gave another comedy, Cap and Gown, ahowling gy success. We finally got our coveted class rings and glamorous senior pictures. , 'Y- .XUQSIQ el - rj, v Our activities went by in a whirl--the Spaghetti Supper, the nights working on the annual, Honor Night, the Junior-Senior Banquet, the senior trip, Seniol skip day and finally graduation. M- Z2 Having become acquainted with the ways of the school, 47 sophomores came back to good old A.C.H.S. ready for a more easy way of life. They found that their studies came more easily and that they final ly remembered their way through study hall. Second semester saw Marilyn Hunsley added to the roll, bringing it to a grand total of 48--iust as many stars in class as in the flag. Far from being silly as the story goes, these sophomores quickly settled down to business to canvass the neighborhood and sell over S300 worth of magazine subscriptions. They were Captain John Zalenas and Ed Winterbauer. It so happened that the first honor night was a game played with San Jose and Zalenas was designated as the fastest forward and Winterbauer as the safest guard in this part of the state . Honor Night was started to honor senior basketball players and still has the same meaning. Red Carnations were worn as a symbol of admiration.
