Oke Se 'tiior 2 M, end Schoo( Jhkeni, M inoid 4 t edlca tion We, of the class of nineteen hundred and fifty, wish to dedicate this yearbook to PEACE, the supreme object of the world. A peace which will afford to all nations the means of dwelling in safety within their own boundaries, and which will afford assurance that all men in all lands may live out their lives in freedom from fear and want. Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed. Peace must be founded upon the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind. It is in the light of new knowledge and through the united efforts of the human race that will lay the Cornerstone of Peace. We, of the Senior Class, hope to help in the making of the Peaceful World of Tomorrow today. 5 M, ministration W. B. BRAEUNINGER B.S., M.S., University of Illinois Principal of High School Superintendent of Unit Dist. 213 PHYLLIS PITTMAN Secretary of the Unit District The community in which Athens High School is located has a population of 1,100. Treeroan On September 3, 1946, twenty-six timid freshmen entered A. C. H. S. Not knowing much about the ins and outs of high school, it wasn't unusual to see a freshie in the senior American History class, looking for the English room in the Ag. room, or even sitting in study hall when their science class was in progress. After wandering around school for a few days, they took pity on us and gave us a class advisor That's when we found out there was more to school than studies. Subsequently, the freshmen made a grand rush to join the various clubs and organizations. Somehow we managed to get through our freshman year and were soon launched upon our sophomore year. With harder studies came a freedom and maturity which dazed us. Our first venture was a financial one. We sponsored a magazine sale. Our team, the Warriors , were pitted against the freshman Ripsnorters. We all worked energetically to increase the contents of the class treasury. Our social life during our second year was considerably broadened as we began to have a few parties and get-togethers within our own class and with the other classes. Everyone looked forward to our junior year and especially to the main interest of the year, the junior-senior banquet. It was held at the Elks Club and from the comments, was enjoyed by all. A secondary event enjoyed very much was a play given by the class called Crazy but Cute. It was just what the name implied, crazy, but cute. om Bob MarkeY To supplement our treasury funds, we sold popcorn and ice cream at home basketball games. In the fall we enjoyed a weiner roast. Pal Wasilewski Rose Ann Soboul Bennie Chastain Bob Bednarko Delbert Johnson Marilyn Satorious Jean Smith Needless to say, the year most eagerly awaited and most enjoyed by all was our senior year. We sold hot-dogs and cokes at home games, were treated to a banquet by the juniors and the capstone of the year was a play given by the class in the fall. Mountain Justice'' was the name of the hilarious hillbilly happening. The annual, which you are, no doubt, glancing through at this time, was the beloved Connic CuHimor , project of the entire class. In this annual, we have tried to give you a picture of our school unit as it really is; and, as you may have gathered from the preceding paragraphs, this is a brief history of the Class of '50. We may not be remembered as the best or the smartest class that has ever graduated; but, we've had fun, made a lot of new friends, and learned something worthwhile every day. There's not a one of us who isn't sorry to be leaving; and if the rest of our lives are as happy as our four years at Athens High School, we'll be a very fortunate group. Mr. Taylor has arranged the books in order of their classification. Recently we have purchased seventy-five new books and six new cabinets. One of the new and different features was the addition of a lending library consisting of books borrowed from the State Library. We hope you have enjoyed the use of our bigger and better library. 34 The Athen’s Chapter o{ the National Honor Society was established February 20, 1947.
