DEDICATION We, the 1946 Athens Community High School grad- uates, hereby dedicate this annual to Clara Schenk Curran, who was our class advisor for two years. It was greatly through her efforts and constant ad- vice that we were able to raise funds to pu b 1 ish this yearbook. We know that classes in the future who are fo rtunat e enough to have Mrs. Curran as their advisor, will be benefited by her un tiring help and understanding personality. Here we are near graduation. Let's stop just a minute and look. Here are the '46 seniors as they once looked, (cute aren'twe?) All the other pages have legends to identify the individuals but this one. Can you guess who they are???????????????????????TT?????TT 13 SENIOR CLASS HISTOHT W , the class of 1946, entered A.C.H.S. in the fall of 1942 with an enrollment of 40 students. We lost several of our class- mates hut we gained some new ones. With a roll of 25, we are a rather small graduating class Our freshman year passed quickly Most of us were glad to he upperclassmen the next fall. Our sophomore year was more eventful. We had the distinction of raising more money than any sophomore class in the history o f the school by sponsoring a puppet show, a magician show and selling magazines. In the spring we had a hamburger fry that not many o f us have forgotten Our junior year passed quickly. We presented a play'fc. Mindof Her Own, and entertained the Seniors at the Junior—Senior Banquet at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield. Our senior year has passed very rapidly, too. We sponsored a senior carnival and were given a Junior-Senior Banquet by the Juniors. Both were great successes. During the year we lost three members of our class——Floyd Ferguson and Bill Doggett joined the Navy; Earl Ferguson, the Arny. In presence of: x Scrip Ink x Paper Waite 16 Dear Friends of A. C. H. S.: As you probably know. It's been some time since we were sophis- ticated (?) Seniors in t h e Class of 19 6. We thought you might like to know what our classmates are doing now; so we decided to take a long vacation across the country in Doriae'a 1956 car. It's a beauty 1 We looked through our little black book and found the addresses of all our old classmates Just in case we should be in any of their home towns. We started out from New York, since that's where we were living and ended up in Hollywood, but that's getting ahead of the story and we'd better start at the beginning. We didn't exactly know where we were going to stop first so we Just started driving. Just as we were driving outside of New York we saw a large building with a familiar name on it. It was McCutcheon's Research. We wondered if, by some chance, that could be Dorothy Mc- Cutcheon. our old classmate. A sign on the building said Visitors Welcome, so we stopped and went in. Entering the main office, who should we find but two of our old friends, now stenographers. Pansy Yager and Joybelle Goodson. They showed us around a n d found Dorothy for us. It was swell seeing than again but we had to be on our way after awhile. We traveled on, not stopping except for gas until we entered Phil- adelphia. Taking a sudden urge to shop, we m e t Clara Chandler, who informed us that she was happily married to a handsome young man and that they had three children. She also told us that Richard Howard and Dorothy Wasllewskl were happily married and Richard was working on the blue prints for a new bridge about to be constructed. We didn't see any more of our former classmates until we reached Chicago. (You'd really be surprised how many were that close to their old home town.) Looking over our addresses, we found Dorothy Smith's name. She is an interior decorator for a big concern. Dories Lott is a secretary for a handsome young doctor, and from the looks of things, they get along very well. Finding another familiar name, we looked up an office with Dr. £. H. Graham on the door. So here was Jack and can you guess who his secretary was? None other them Jean Stott. Ivelyn Womack was also in Chicago, secretary to an important aviation execu- tive. 17 From Chicago to D • s Moines! Wo knew that Ed Krell and Delmar Tobias were partners on their farm, one of the largest In Iowa. We couldn't stop by as we n o w had a definite schedule and it was too far out of our way. We didn't stay long in Iowa before going on to Nebraska. Stopping In Osiaha, we visited Loren Glasscock and his wife. Loren is buyer for a wholesale farm machinery firm. Going south into Kansas, we decided to stop at Topeka, where Dale Stott is the proprietor of a large garage. He told us that Lin djr Pierceall was Junior partner ina manufacturing business in Kansas City. Only everyone there calls him Carl. Traveling on westward, we stopped at Colorado Springs because we had heard so much about it. !Qxere we saw Georgia Adlington and her little girl. Georgia'a husband isn't quite a millionaire yet but he seems to be on his way. After staying there awhile we went on to Salt Lake City, Utah. Going to the lake Theater, we were told that Harold Bodell. the manager, was taking the afternoon off at the lake. We went there, too. On to Nevada and The Biggest Little City in t h e World, Reno. Here we looked up Bonnie Pittman and her Irish doctor husband.t Bonnie told us that Joe Soboul is a successful commercial artist in Dal las, Texas. California, here we come I We visited with George Miller, now own- er of a large citrus fruit farm near San Francisco. We decided to go to San Diego before Hollywood, wanting to see Gerry McIntyre, whose husband is stationed there. In the Navy, of course. Gerry told us to look up BUI Doggett. still in the Navy, and also stationed at San Diego. Then Hollywood—home of the movies. After a short visit, I, Phyl- lis. have to go back to the New York hospital where I am a nurse. And since I, Dorine. have a splendid Job as professional skater, I too have to go back to New York. We hope you have not been too bored with our newsy letter and that you will reply soon. 8incerely, PSYLLIS WASII.TWSKI Phyl- Oh heavens Noted for: InteIIiger.ee Class President 4 Librarian 3« + Chorus 3• Band 1, 2 Gas Bag 2,3.
