It was hard to believe his death when it occured in July and it was very hard to return to school without his being there. Constant reminders of his absence occurred from the first day of school coffee hour, the first faculty meeting, the 33 football pool, the initial lack of paycheck poker, no World Series activities, his comments in the halls and classroom to both the students and faculty, his presence at football games and other sporting events, his untoppable hunting stories, his willingness to help anyone from his store of talent and supplies, his Pitt partisanship without bounds, and on and on and on John left a legacy to all of us in the Athens School Community, of living life and enjoying it. He taught us not to get too serious with ourselves and through his passing he taught us to appreciate and interact with one another before we must regret not having done so.
