Lynch, a native of Athens and a graduate of Athens High School, has had a deep, continuing interest in the youth of this area. He served on the board of education for twenty-two years—during the majority of these years he was president of the board. The accomplishments during these years were extensive. The area contained in the Athens system expanded from Athens Boro and Athens Township to include Ulster, Sheshe-quin, Smithfield, and Ridgebury. Three new elementary buildings were constructed, the present Athens High School was constructed, and the swimming pool named in Dr. Lynch’s honor was added. Expansion of the curriculum has been equally extensive. In appreciation of his contribution to education in the area, Dr. Lynch was honored by the Athens Area Education Association, the Athens Area Board of Education, and other citizens at a testimonial dinner April 14, 1972.
