MARY BROUGHTON MARIAN C. MCDONALD B.S. Mansfield State B.S. Mansfield State College College Home Economics 8, 10, Home Economics 7, 9, 12 11 Advanced Sewing Jr. F.H.A. Interior Decorating HOME ECONOMICS The Home Economics Department at Athens is concerned with teaching fundamental and advanced homemaking. This course is required for girls in grades seven through nine. During these years the girls are taught the basics of homemaking including sewing, cooking, family relations, safety, housing, and child care. Homemaking courses are also offered to senior high students. Tenth and eleventh grade girls may elect home economics courses. Their time is divided between sewing and cooking techniques. An advanced Home Economics class offers units in grooming, food value, and sewing skills. Also one semester courses may be elected. The two one semester courses offered now are advanced sewing and interior decorating. In advanced sewing different sewing techniques are studied, and practiced by making various garments. ln the interior decorating course the students listen to speakers, draw floor plans and build a model house to scale.

Bloomsburg State College Data Processing Bookkeeping I, II Business Law Attendance Director BUSINESS The students in the business curriculum are offered a variety of courses which cover all aspects needed in any business occupation. Aside from the regular commercial subjects - typing, shorthand, business arithmetic, and bookkeeping - the curriculum offers business law, office practice, and data processing. In law, the students are taught the legal aspects of business transactions. Office practice is a practical experience in business machine operation and office procedures. A course in data processing teaches terminology used in business, card punching programming, operation of sorting machine, and basic computer programming. It is hoped that the department will be expanded and a computer laboratory installed. Mr. Gabriel, head of the business department, stated, Our department has a good record of placing business graduates in business occupations. FWE5

Pennsylvania State University Vocational Agriculture 9. 10, 11. 12 FFA SHOP The Athens High School Shop Department consists of four areas: Wood Shop, Metal Shop, Vocational Agriculture, and Mechanical Drawing. Boys in the seventh and tenth grades may take wood shop, a study of timber from its harvesting to its use in construction. The study of plastics - different types, methods of making them, and use in industry - is also a part of wood shop. Courses in metal shop may be taken by students in the eighth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. ln metal shop. the boys learn the use of handtools, blueprints, and measuring devices while studying the electrical system of the automobile and shop mathematics. Vocational Agriculture, taught in the ninth through twelfth grades, provides an introduction to future farming. Various studies include soil testing, dairy and beef cattle, poultry, forestry, crop growing, water management, and pasture improvement. ln addition, farm machinery and electrical motors are studied in detail. The boys are exposed to careers in Agricultural Business. Mechanical Drawing, offered to students in the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades, teaches the design and construction of different objects. Basic skills in the drawing of machine parts are studied and applied. The main objective of mechanical drawing is to increase the student's knowledge and appreciation of what goes into working an object. WILLIAM E. SMITH B.S.
