RETIREMENT MISS JULIA LUNGER The 1968-69 school term was the last for Miss Julia Lunger before her ensuing retirement. She will long be remembered by her students and fellow faculty members. Since the reorganization of Athens Area schools, Miss Lunger has been a Guidance Counselor at the high school. Her warm, understanding personality has been appreciated by every new class of seventh graders. She has devoted much time and effort to helping seventh and eighth graders adjust smoothly to high school routine. Miss Lunger has also taught in the Athens grade schools instructing every elementary grade. When she first came to the high school she was not yet a Guidance Counselor, but rather a classroom teacher. Miss Lunger explains that she became concerned with the junior high age level and decided to earn her Master's degree in Guidance. Julia Lunger had wanted to be a teacher since she was a young child. This desire remained with her all through her schooling. Some of her present interests and hobbies, too, began when she was a child. She has always been curious about and appreciative of nature. Over the years, she has collected sea shells, many of which she has kept on shelves in her office. Bird-watching is another pastime which Miss Lunger enjoys. In her own high school, she was a member of the girls' varsity basketball team, played the violin in the orchestra. She recalls that long dangling earrings which reached the shoulders were the fad at that time. Miss Lunger was a 1925 graduate of Athens High School. She attended college at the Pennsylvania State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. Miss Lunger has been considered a valuable member of our faculty, and her absence next Fall will be regretted. 11

ALLEN We, the 1969 Athenian Staff, would like to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Nelson Allen. Nlr. Allen, who is presently convalescing from a series of heart attacks, has been a valuable asset to the Athens High faculty. He came to us in the 1965 school term, teaching history on the junior high level. These seventh and eighth grade students, who now compose the junior and senior classes, especially remember him for his keen sense of humor and interest in young people. Those who were not so fortunate as to have had him in class have undoubtedly heard of him through the rest of student body. We are taking this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude for his dedication to the teaching profession and his example of unfaltering courage. .10 DEDICATION MR. NELSON
