The size of the faculty and administration of Athens High School would shock those who were affiliated with the Academy. The one teacher and three assistants of the Academy staff have been supplanted by the seventy-one employees of the present faculty and administration. Today's cafeteria and janitorial services would amaze those early Athenians. The first teacher in the Academy. Sylvanua Garnsey. received $500 per year. The school year was divided into four quarters beginning April 25 and ending March 6. The curriculum included music, art. language, and chemistry—all taught by assistants—and reading, writing and arithmetic taught by the preceptor. The Academy, with its small but efficient staff, offered its students the best in education. Athens High School, with its well trained staff and well equipped building, offers its students

It is the end of your public school education, an education made possible through the cooperative efforts of many people. Future education will be more the responsibility of you yourself.
