 !dminisiraiiue Issisiani Mr. Raker, as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools of the Athens Area School District, has many responsibilities. The supervision of maintenance and school equipment is his responsibility. He purchases all the supplies and textbooks for the district, and sees that the teachers requisitions are filled out properly. The delivery of these supplies is also handled by him. The post of Administrative Assistant is one essential to the efficient running of the school, and during this, his first year, Mr. Raker has done an exceptional job. JJrincipa Mr. Pruyne, as principal of Athens High School, carries most of the responsibility for the general policy of the school. This is Mr. Pruyne’s first year as principal at Athens although he was acting principal in 1963-1964, and served in the capacity of Assistant Principal 1964-1966. As principal, Mr. Pruyne provides leadership for the teachers and students. He has the responsibility for instructional improvement, planning of the curriculum, and student morale and conduct. He works with the superintendent of schools for the public relations program. Mr. Pruyne does an excellent job, of handling his widely varied duties.

Superintendent of Schools JITr. Tticfiarc TKaroin The superintendent of schools is the executive officer of the Board of Education. It is his duty to execute the policies established by the board. He recommends the appointment of faculty members, and prepares the annual school budget. He is responsible for the administration of the schools in the district. He serves as a public relations man, and informs the people of the accomplishments and the needs of Athens Area Schools. His duties are many and strenuous, and Mr. Marvin does an outstanding job. 12

It is a path towards improvement of communications. Studying languages enables us to understand ourselves and others. The English courses emphasize grammar and literature. Students study specific writing skills and practice their use. They study the techniques of others in learning to clearly express themselves. The study of literature provides an understanding of people. By studying the structure and meaning of literature, students gain an insight into and understanding of themselves as well as of others. The study of foreign languages is the key to world understanding. Two such languages, French and German, are offered in our school. The study of languages is basically a study of the formal grammar and culture of the language. It is hoped that students will acquire a working knowledge of the language and will be able to put it to use if they should ever be in a situation requiring such knowledge. . 14
