Kjelgaardg J. Carr So you want to be amajorettel Easier said than done. Many girls from 9th, lOth, and llth grades try out for majorette but only a few have the honor of being se- lected. The girls trying out are chosen annually by the other majorettes and Mr. Swetland, band director. Ability to march and twirl, leadership, friendly per- sonality, neat appearance, and intelligence sum up the qualifications. This attractive group of girls performs for crowds at football games and parades. Being able to perform for crowds like these requires many hours of hard practice. In fact, the majorettes practice in the summer before football season begins. The crowds were well pleased with the excellent job the majorettes did in 1957. Jackie Carr, head majorette, did a good job leading these girls. The mascot was Joey Carr, sister of the head majorette. During football season, new blue and white uniforms were acquired. The drum majorette wore blue, while the others wore white. Marching down the field in the traditional blue and white, the majorettes made an im- pressive group.
