DEDICATIO X DEDICATION: The class of i957 proudly dedicates this edition of the Athenian to Anna M. Evgenikas, Athens High School's adopted orphan girl from Greece. In the past, the yearbooks have dedicated to a person who has been a help to all of us or a team which has brought us great honor and pride. This year, however, we are dedicating the book to Anna because we feel that she has contributed as much to A. H. S. through her faith and courage as any of us who are lucky enough to live in the United States.

FOREWGRD Between the Susquehanna and the Chemung rivers stands the small town of Athens, Penn- sylvania, while 7,000 miles away in the Mediterranean Sea, the age-old city of Athens, Greece, stands shrouded in her past glories. ln Athens, Pennsylvania, about 2242 young people attend school in one of the finest educational systems in the world, but the children of many other coun- tries such as Greece are not so fortunate. Unfortunately, we Americans are not always quick to realize this fact. Many years ago, an early settler, who came to what was then Tioga Point, stated that the town reminded him of Athens, Greece, because of the geographical similarity. The citizens of the community became interested and the name of the town was changed to Athens. Today we students of the Senior Class base the theme of our book on Athens, Greece.
