TjO IRVING HAZARD, PRINCIPAL Jr.-Sr. High School At the time this is being written it is very difficult to determine what might be timely as a parting message to you as you are graduated and leave our school. The world situation is in such confusion at the moment that no statesman or prophet can predict the direction that the future of the world may take. But in the midst of this uncertainty, as in all ages, there are values of permanence. Seek them out and hold to them. The theme of your yearbook is The Acre . This reminded me of a lecture that I had read that was written 57 years ago by Russell Conwell which he called Acres Of Diamonds and delivered thousands of times. I have just reread it and find that its message is as vital now as when it was written because it dealt with values of permanence. It proves rather conclusively that the value of a life, like the value of an acre, depends, not on its location in time or space, but on the service which it can render to the needs of mankind. He most lives who thinks most, Who feels the noblest And who acts the best. We hope that the training and experiences of your years in Athens High School wil contribute much toward helping you to seek for and to find such values for your life Sincerely, It 13
