Georgianna Coombs has been trying to make the government pass a law that would make all backyard fences a height of AJ 2 feet so “back-yard gossip-ers” may have something to lean on. The “Clean-em-up Tooth Paste” has just paid $3000 for a picture of Phoebe Bidlack’s smile for their world wide posters. Milford and Vivian Fairbanks Howard celebrated their 20th Anniversary by taking their seven children to Chicago. Coach, “Mike” Daniels, of Athens High School has posted a bulletin for his men to report for spring football practice. His hopes are high after taking the championship for two years straight. Miss Phyllis Custer, interior decorator, was seen putting this “ad” in the evening paper “I will make a new house out of your rooms for a few dollars with little change.” Joan Chandler has just taken the position of English teacher in the Athens High School. She is filling the vacancy left by Dorotha Watkins who has settled down to a quiet married life with Admiral Raymond Smith of the U. S. Xavy. Lucille Jacklin was seen the other day sketching the future Athens High School in the world of tomorrow. Miss Joyce Patterson, after winning the first prize in the National Pie Baking Contest, held in Washington, D. C, last week, was congratulated by Pennsylvania's first Lady Senator, Miss Pearle Maslin. The recent cooking contest directed by Elsie Hager for the benefit of the U. S. O., proved Flossie Bradley as all-State Champion with Lucille Merrill as a very close “runner-up.” Gerald Callear, Secretary of Agriculture, has stopped in Athens to visit his parents before going to Chicago to attend the Agricultural Exhibition Show. Mavis Case. Mildred Campbell, and Theresa Chambers have gone into business which is called “The Six C’s,” or “The Case, Campbell, Chambers, Cat Cleaning Company.” Athens seems to be quite an athletic town. Shirley Thrasher, Mary Jane Farr, and Ruth Hall have been honored by being asked to play on the “All-American” Football Team. Miss Patricia Turk, famous concert violinist, made her debut at Carnegie Hall. Her audience included Major “4-F Dewitt of the U. S. Army, and Miss Bette Thrasher, President of the Red Cross. 4 22 K-
