Tribute to Alumni in the Service Alumni of Athens High School in the service of our country—we are proud of you. We sincerely wish you the best of luck, and we know you will do your best to uphold the standards of Athens High School. In the many vital branches of America’s armed forces—the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and in the Women’s Auxiliaries—we feel sure that the education and training you have received at Athens High School will be of inestimable value to you. On the battle front you will be facing the greatest crises of your life-time; remember that the clubs and organizations to which you belonged endeavored to instill in you the qualities of leadership, dependability, trustworthiness. These qualities will help you to face these crises, and face them bravely. We, the present students of Athens High, realize how great a debt we owe you, our alumni, who are now fighting to preserve the finest things of the “American Way”—the Four Freedoms, our Constitution and all that it symbolizes, our churches, our public schools, our unlimited opportunity for the development of the individual, and all the other good and wholesome things we Americans love. As you go forth to do your duty for your country and your God, our hearts are with you. Message from Our President Stop and read here for a minute on your way through this edition of the Athenian. For this Athenian, my friends, represents Athens High School—Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Teachers, Classes, Activities, a whole year of work and play. Now it is all over. In a few years we Seniors will have been forgotten by Athens High School. But we won’t forget, we can’t. We are not just taking knowledge from thiskjiigh school, but we are also taking friendships and memories that will live forever and be cherished by each one of us for years to come. That’s why we are editing this Athenian, because we are proud of all things it shows about our last year in high school. And. if in future years, other things crowd and press upon our minds we can and will turn back and go through our 1943 Athenian. We’ll enjoy it. because this is our school, and this was our year. And in closing I want to wish my fellow classmates the best of luck in their ventures into the outside world. I would also like to wish the future graduating classes of Athens High School the very best of everything. Harold E. Weller Jr. •Of 21 f
