A teacher, a lady, a friend, Mrs. Bryant is respected and admired by all who know her and is appreciated by those who have learned from her. It takes an exceptional person such as Mrs. Bryant to cope with the problems of students from kinder- garten through high school and teach them effectively. She is always con- cerned, sincere, understanding and above all — dedicated. Mrs. Bryant, we appreciate you for being the person you are and being such an inspiration to us. We dedicate the Academia 1970 to you. A:- r « Mrs. Kimbrell has truly been a distinguished person at Athens Academy. The Upper School girls express a special thanks to her for her guidance and understanding to each of us. Mrs. Kimbrell ' s competence in her field and experience as an instructor have provided a foundation of academic excellence for our young school. She is one who has helped us through the trials and tribulations of our first three years. Mrs. Kimbrell, we will always be indebted to you. And Mrs. Mines A person in our school whom we shall never forget is Mrs. Mary Alice Mines. She has truly been a great help to the students and school life during the two years she has been with us. First Days Of School At Athens Academy .%  The first days of the 1969-1970 school year were exciting and confusing especially for the children starting school for the first time. After a four game winning streak, the Varsity ended the season playing for the first time in the South- eastern Association of Independent Schools Basketball Tournament in which the Spartans took second place. The Junior Varsity had the first winning season in the Academy ' s history, with seven wins and five losses. 32 J.V. The Spartans enjoyed a winning season as far as student support was concerned. 50 Chorus The Athens Academy Chorus en- joyed its second successfu] year under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Lena David. Participants come from Lower School and Upper School. Sigma Alpha Phi Sigma Alpha Phi was organized this year to provide a club for the musically inclined students here at the Academy. Mary Carson Ina Cook The ninth grade curriculum consisted of history, math, science, and physical education, with art and chorus as electives. In addition to their world history course, the ninth grade went on a tour of Greek revival architecture in Athens. The English curriculum emphasized grammer and litera- ture. Also included were vocabulary and composition writ- ing. The French classes ranged from French I to French III. The ninth grade explored quadratic equations in Alge- bra I. Introductory Physical Science included a basic study of the atom. Biology, and over all look at life, was approached with much interest. A trip to the Okefenokee Swamp highlighted this year. The students worked very hard to learn the principles of Alge- bra II. French was studied on three levels by different students. English under John Talamage, a retired professor, was a first- hand look at what college will be like. American History was taught an experimental way. The em- phasis was on discussion instead of texts and tests.
