Because without it Atchison High School could not exist We Dedicate the 1959 Trailblazer to Atchison, Our Town. Through the top story windows of Atchison High School, a visitor can look down on what appears to be a moderately populated, average looking town. There can be seen busy downtown sections, comfortable residential areas, peaceful parks, a swim- ming pool, Amelia Earhart Stadium, churches, schools, tennis courts, and the YMCA. But through the eyes of Atchison High School students a completely different view unfolds-for this is Our Town. Suddenly the busy downtown sections become the places where our parents work-where we, ourselves, hold part time jobs and where we buy our clothes, school supplies and cokes. The comfortable residential areas take on the hue of warmth because in them we find the most vital part of our lives -our homes, families and churches. Our eyes continue their journey over the city but do not bypass the parks and the recreational centers which are scented with memories. Scanning the landscape we find fertile fields and bountiful harvests forming a mighty fortress all around the valley. The keystone of the fortress being the Missouri River which winds like a life-giving ribbon, nourishing the land and providing us with food and water. Yes, this is the backdrop for our education. No school could build up a name as outstanding as that of Atchison High School without surroundings such as these and a community whose members so freely aid public education. -THE STAFF
